How to Make Gold

Guides

Gold is an essential resource in the game and is often used in crafting recipes as ingots, which you can make by collecting raw gold ore from rocks on your farm and in the mines.

To collect raw gold ore, you must unlock the third mine on your farm. You’ll have to repair a broken bridge to reach it and can either use gold or materials (10 Silver Ingots and 30 Supple Lumber). Once you’ve asked Nigel to repair the bridge, which he will do overnight, you can cross it and break the gold-speckled rocks scattered in and around the mine.

How to Get Tools

Guides

You receive most tolls by entering a specific location and talking with the townsfolk to improve your reputation. Below is a list of the tools you can receive and how you can receive them

  • Axe - Given to you on the first day. It enables you to cut down trees and gather wood.
  • Sickle - Given to you on the first day. It enables you to harvest grass.
  • Hammer - GIven to you on the first day. It enables you to break rocks.
  • Hoe - GIven to you on the second day after an Event. It enables you to till the land and begin farming.
  • Watering Can - Given to you on the second day after an Event. It enables you to water your crops and plants.
  • Bucket - Given to you the morning after a day of rain. It enables you to remove water holes.
  • Fishing Rod - Given to you by Manuela after you visited Marcos’ house. It enables you to catch fish.
  • Camera - Given to you by Gloria after you’ve visited the Museum. It enables you to take photos.
  • Leash - Gifted to you by Patricia, who you can find next to the animal store after you’ve upgraded your home. It enables you to walk your pets.

How to Upgrade Your Bag

Guides

When you first start the game, you will receive a bag capable of holding 16 items at a time and your various tools. To hold more items, you’ll need to upgrade it. You can do this by visiting the Tool Shop in town and telling Clemens you want to expand your bag.

There are two extensions you can purchase. The first costs 3000 gold and enables you to carry 24 items by adding a third row of slots to your bag. The second costs 15 000 and lets you carry 32 items by adding a fourth row of slots to your bag.

Remember, the Tool Shop is closed on Tuesdays.

How to Unlock New Locations

Guides

While exploring your farm, you’ll happen across structures that need to be repaired. Take note of these structures and the material and gold you’ll need to repair them. Once you’ve fixed them, you will unlock new locations and gain access to better resources.

If you’re constantly harvesting and processing items like wood and ore, you’ll be able to meet the repair requirements of these structures and unlock new locations much quicker.

How to Clear Puddles

Guides

Puddles are just one of the many obstacles you’ll need to deal with on your farm. They appear in random locations every day and can only be cleared once you’ve unlocked the bucket, which you can’t unlock until Clemens gives it to you on the 7th day of Spring.

You can then clear a puddle by standing next to it and pressing “Y.” Clearing puddles will also let you collect clay, which you can use in crafting recipes and machines. Clearing puddles and ponds around your farm will raise your Draining skill and unlock permanent bonuses in the game.

How to Upgrade Tools

Guides

Aside from the Camera and Leash, you can upgrade any tool multiple times to improve its quality and performance. You should be working quickly to improve the productivity of your farm.

You can upgrade your tools by heading into town and talking with Clemens at the Tool Shop. Each upgrade will be more expensive than the last, and you’ll need materials and gold to complete an upgrade. Silver upgrades require 5 Silver Ingots each, and gold tools require 10 Gold ingots each.

How to Get Rid of Dead Plants

Guides

You can use your hammer to smash them; just be careful, as you can damage the surrounding plants.

How to Tame an Animal

Guides

Once you get close to an animal, hit “A” on your controller. You can then move it to a barn or coop to give it a name, and it will be tamed.

How to Improve Your Gameplay

Hints

Sleep Before You Collapse

You must keep an eye on your stamina bar. It will slowly decrease as you perform activities, and if you allow it to drain completely, you’ll pass out from exhaustion. If this happens, you’ll wake up at 10 am the next day with only half your stamina replenished.

Your stamina can also run out if the in-game time reaches 2 am, so be careful to avoid overexerting yourself and sleep when it is low. You can replenish your stamina by eating in restaurants or hotels that you can find around town, but this will cost gold.

Eat the Main Dishes to recover the most stamina and save your gold.

Gather Lumber and Iron Ore on Your First Day

Make sure you spend your first day gathering materials with the tools the mayor gives you. Focus specifically on collecting Lumber and iron ore, which you can get by mining stones on the northwest side of your farm with the gammer.

You may need to break some stones close to the mine to expose the ladder that lets you enter. You should also gather grass, but only enough to fix the coop.

Earn Gold from Collecting Wild Crops and Seashells

While exploring the farm and getting familiar with your surroundings, you should gather the wild crops and seashells that will randomly spawn in the area. You can sell them for gold at the beginning, as they are not used in recipes until later in the game.

Fix the Broken Chicken Coop

One of the first things you’ll be asked to do is fix the broken chicken coop to the west of your farm. You’ll need 30 grass, 20 Lumber, and 30 Stone, resources you should have no trouble collecting on your first day.

Once fixed, you can raise chickens, giving you a daily supply of eggs, a beneficial resource early in the game.

How to Unlock Secret Characters

Unlockables

Throughout the game, you will encounter and befriend many different characters. You can unlock two secret characters after fulfilling specific criteria.

Spirit of the Spring

As you collect Follower Sprites, you’ll see cutscenes of a small spirit child. At 85 Sprites, you can meet and speak with the child, but at 100, she’ll regain her true form. Moving forward, you can continue talking with her at the shrine and unlock more cutscenes after collecting more Sprites.

Matsuyuki

Once you marry Iori, you’ll encounter Matsuyuki, an assassin who you’ll see vague references to during Iori’s Heart Scenes. Still, you won’t meet him until the 9th Heart Scene, where he reveals he no longer wants to hunt Iori.

You can speak with him after your marriage to Iori and increase your Friendship Level as you would with other townsfolk.
