Resident Evil references
Easter EggsDaymare includes numerous references to the Resident Evil series, not only because it was inspired by them but because the project actually began as a fan-made remake of Resident Evil 2 before that was shut down and eventually led to the development of Daymare in its place.
These references include:
- A letter from “Admiral Shinji M,” a reference to Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami
- An email addressed to “Dearest Alma,” just like one of the notes in the first Resident Evil
- The city’s founder is named Spencer Crackhorn, a reference to Oswell Spencer, owner of the Spencer Mansion and one of the founders of Umbrella; his office might be a reference to Spencer as well
- A typewriter located in the founder’s office and safe room music
- A nameplate for A. Wong, referencing Ada Wong
- Liev’s design and mission, which have several similarities to HUNK
- Graffiti about V-Jolt, the chemical used in the first Resident Evil to defeat Plant 42; the formula is also found written down
- A chalk drawing of a railroad like one seen in Resident Evil 3
- Locations that resemble areas from Resident Evil 2, most notably the S.T.A.R.S. office, where the H.A.D.E.S. office has a very similar layout
- A letter from a woman named Annette complaining about her husband spending too much time in the sewers and references a crocodile in the sewers, referencing Annette Birkin and the crocodile from Resident Evil 2
- The Cleaner’s voice actor is Paul Haddad, the original voice actor of Leon in Resident Evil 2
- A picture on a bulletin board that references Back to the Future, which doubles as a Resident Evil reference since Resident Evil 2 and 3 also had a Back to the Future photo on a bulletin board
- There are many more references to Resident Evil and other pieces of popular media throughout the game.
