The Mercenaries

How to Unlock: - Complete main campaign once on any difficulty. What is it? The Mercenaries is a minigame where you can play as five characters: Leon, Ada, Krauser, Hunk and Wesker. There are 4 stages which each have their own custom bosses and enemies. The first stage is Village, where you fight villagers and the boss that spawns every few minutes are the Bella Sisters. The next stage is Castle, where you fight the Castle enemies, including Scythemen and the boss being Garrador. The next stage is Battlefield, where your in the location where Mike the helicopter pilot assists you through the level. He is not present in this stage but the enemies are the island enemies and the boss being J.J, the minigun wielding ganado. The last stage is not included in the main campaign as is known as 'Water World' which once again consists of the island enemies but this time the boss is a variant of Dr. Salvador, except this time wields a double bladed chainsaw and swings it around. If you touch it, you instantly get killed.

How to Improve Your Gameplay

Invest in Your Combat Knife

The combat knife isn't just a weapon; it's a vital tool in the game, especially when it comes to parrying. A well-timed parry can save you from a fatal attack.

It's one of the first items you start with, so you're going to want to start upgrading its speed, damage, and durability as soon as you can. Make a few upgrades to your usual weapons, but focus most of your efforts on your combat knife, and it will make a massive difference to your playthrough.

Keep in mind, even at maximum durability, the combat knife will break at some point, especially if you're playing through a longer encounter. Fortunately, enemies will drop weaker knives (kitchen or boot) that can save you in a pinch.

Watch the Enemies' Hands

When dealing with enemies, it's common practice to shoot them in the head to stun them, hitting them with Leon's signature kick. That said, an enemy's head shouldn't be the only thing you take note of. Once you've shot them, the weapon in their hand (which can range from torches - which can set them on fire - to melee weapons to even lit dynamite - will explode when shot at) will drop.

Keeping track of what's in your enemies' hands will be incredibly beneficial when they start showing up with morning stars and electrified polearms. You can get these factors out of the way early on and make encounters much easier, especially when dealing with a bigger group.

If you parry an enemy's attack when they don't have anything in their hands, this will automatically cut off their arms, making dodging their grabs a lot easier.

Knife Any Enemies Twitching On the Ground

As you play through the game, you'll notice that some enemies get a second wind after being defeated. They'll be twitching on the ground before getting back on their feet with their necks cracked.

Later, you'll discover the Plagas that have been nesting inside them. Enemies infested by Plagas are incredibly annoying to deal with once they turn, especially if you're dealing with a mob of them. Once you get deep enough into the castle, some of these enemies can one-hit-kill you if you don't parry their attack in time.

Alternatively, you can prevent them from turning altogether by stopping whatever you're doing and taking a moment to stab them before they become a major issue.

Drag-and-Drop Herbs to Combine Them

With an attache case in your hand, combining herbs just got a whole lot easier. All you need to do is drag one on top of the other (a failure means the combo you're trying to do is impossible).

You Will Be Warned About Points of No Return

The story is divided into chapters, meaning there are points of no return. When you see the merchant, you can stop, shop, and save your game. The merchant also acts as a way to warn you that you've come to a point of No Return, meaning you won't be able to go back and do stuff on the level you're on now once you're past this point. This warning comes in the shape of pieces of dialogue, as he says something about "taking care of any leftover errands before going this way."

If you're trying to complete all requests or collect all the treasures and collectibles in one go, make a quick manual save as a backup, or you'll have to replay the game.

Where to Find the Weapon Parts

There are seven weapon parts you’ll need to find to complete the “Part Enthusiast” challenge. Every part except one can be purchased from the merchant and will become available as you progress through the story. They’re technically missable if you run out of money.

You can combine each weapon part with a weapon to add a modification. You can also store the attachments at the typewriter save points if you don’t need them.

  • Biosensor Scope: You’ll find this part in Chapter 13 in the Incubation Lab, which you can get into using the level 2 card on the door in the hall south of the Freezer.
  • Scope: Can be bought from the merchant for 4000 ptas.
  • Laser Sight: Can be traded from the merchant for 10 Spinels.
  • High-Power Scope: Can be traded from the merchant for 7 Spinels.
  • TMP Stock: Can be traded from the merchant for 8 Spinels.
  • Red9 Stock: Can be traded from the merchant for 9 Spinels.
  • Matilda Stock: Can be traded from the merchant for 12 Spinels.

Every Clockwork Castellan Location

There are sixteen Clockwork Castellans hidden across the game, one for each chapter:

  • Chapter 1: You’ll find the collectible in an area called “Lakeside Settlement.” When you get to where the dynamite thrower is, you’ll see the Clockwork Castellan sitting on the broken roof. Climb through the window into the house and look up at the roof. The Castellan makes a distinct sound, so you should be able to hear it.
  • Chapter 2: After using the Hexagonal Emblem to open a gate, go upstairs to a wooded area and enter the first hit on the left. Shoot the figurine.
  • Chapter 3: From the merchant in the Quarry, jump down the ladder, go to the end of the pier, and look up to see the Castellan between the roof and wooden boxes.
  • Chapter 4: Park the boat in the northwest area of the lake, where you can use the Insignia Key on the locked gate. There’s a ladder behind it that leads to the Forest Altar area. You should be able to spot the Castellan through a fence.
  • Chapter 5: Starting from the Village Square, head south to the Village Chief’s Manor. Once inside, go to the bedroom, pull the level, and boost Ashely up the ladder. The Castellan is on the left side of the attic, behind a yellow destructible crate.
  • Chapter 6: After encountering the first enemy in this chapter along a hill path, the Castellan is right beneath a bonfire just before you reach the “Checkpoint” area.
  • Chapter 7: After surviving your first Garrador encounter, you can open the dungeon door and climb upstairs to the storage room. You’ll find the Castellan on top of a shelf.
  • Chapter 8: Once you’re outside and reach the top of the castle walls, a Giant will throw rocks at you. Drop down the right side of the tower, near the west of the map, and enter the second tower in the west. Once on the rooftop, circle the tower to find the Castellan at the end.
  • Chapter 9: You’ll find the Castellan in the northwest corner of the courtyard maze.
  • Chapter 10: Just outside the merchant in the sewers, directly across from the room he’s in. You’ll see the Castellan head behind bars. It’s hanging upside down, and you may need to walk quite close to the bars to see it.
  • Chapter 11: You’ll find the Castellan after the first minecart ride on top of the Stopover building wall. You can shoot it from inside the building. Make sure to hit it before getting on the second minecart, or it will be lost to you for that playthrough.
  • Chapter 12: Once that chapter starts, you’ll want to head inside the golden Gondola and through the gate to enter the “Clocktower,” a room filled with enemies. It’s sitting on a box in the northwest corner of the room. Get it before heading upstairs.
  • Chapter 13: After the first encounter with a rocket launcher enemy, go through the next gate and head down the right path. You’ll encounter another four enemies. Once you’ve defeated them, you can look for the Castellan between the green forklift and the orange container truck in the right corner of the room.
  • Chapter 14: After the cutscene in the Amber storeroom, head through the big gates to enter a tunnel and walk South. You’ll find the Castellan in a little building, sitting on some lockers.
  • Chapter 15: Head through the Ruins and enter the next building, a dark room with body bags hanging from the ceiling known as Specimen Storage. North of this area is a little room with a treasure chest. The Castellan is sitting on the wooden beams above the treasure chest.
  • Chapter 16: After the Saddler boss fight, during the time escape sequence, you’ll find it on the right side of the rectangular room filled with enemies.

How to Get Every Crafting Recipe

Five crafting recipes will become available as you progress through the story. All five will be available from the final merchant in Chapter 16. You’ll need all five to complete the “Crafty Crafter” recipe.

Next to the treasure room, you’ll find the final merchant room, where you’ll need to purchase any remaining recipes, weapons, or weapon parts:

  • Heavy Grenade: Can be bought from the merchant for 12000 ptas.
  • Flash Grenade: Can be bought from the merchant for 6000 ptas.
  • Bolts: Can be bought from the merchant for 6000 ptas.
  • Attachable Mines: Can be bought from the merchant for 8000 ptas.
  • Magnum Ammo: Can be bought from the merchant for 7000 ptas.
