If you examine the skull, rotate it to view the bottom, and give it a little shake, it will present you with a fortune-telling message (and unlock a trophy).

If you enter the water at the Halebidu dam, Nadine will shout that they don’t have time to play Marco Polo (which also unlocks a trophy). This is a reference to a running joke in the series. Chloe’s laugh in response to Nadine’s comment is also a shout-out to Uncharted 2 in particular, with that game’s Marco Polo joke.
