If you're stuck but still want to soak in the story, Cheat Engine can take the edge off this survival horror. It's not built into the game, but it works fine for tweaking values like health, ammo, or inventory.

How to get started:

• Install Cheat Engine, launch the game, then select the game process via the monitor icon in Cheat Engine.
• Find your value: scan your current number (say, ammo 8) as an exact value, change it in-game (shoot to 7), scan again for 7, and repeat until one address remains.
• Lock it in: add the address, then edit or freeze it to your preferred value.

Tips:

• Look for community-made tables if you want pre-made toggles and hotkeys.
• Keep it single-player only and back up saves. It's easy to break progression if you go wild.
• Consider boosting ammo or healing just enough to learn encounters instead of turning yourself invincible.

Customize the pain.

• Separate sliders for combat and puzzles let you crank one and chill the other.
• On lower combat difficulties, safe zones can heal you. Higher ones disable that, forcing item-only recovery.
• There's a rogue-lite subsystem that adds some meta-progression between runs, softening permadeath's bite.
• Lives per run scale with difficulty. Run out, and you're back to square one—so play conservatively.

This demo is the first chapter of a bigger plan. Expect more locations, enemy types, and puzzle styles that keep the late-90s survival horror DNA intact.

This game is stingy on purpose. Ammo's finite, enemies are hungry, and panic burns resources.

• Pick your fights. If a room isn't critical to progress, consider skipping the engagement.
• Aim for the head. Headshots save bullets and end chases quicker.
• Use melee as a fallback. It's in the demo now, but it's stamina-gated and risky in tight halls.
• Scout before you step in. Peek from doorways, watch patrols, and commit the layout to memory.
• Deaths sting. You keep items on respawn but not bullets. Dying repeatedly can soft-lock your run.
• Split the difficulties. Puzzle and combat difficulty are separate—tune each to your taste.

Stamina comes in two layers: current and maximum.

• Current stamina drains when you sprint, shoot, or quick turn, and refills fast when idle.
• Maximum stamina slowly shrinks over a run, but never below ~60% of your start. Recover it with healing items or by resting in safe areas on lower combat difficulties.
• At zero current stamina, expect slower movement and worse accuracy; more penalties are planned.

How to play it:

• Pause between fights to top off current stamina.
• Enter encounters fresh—don't sprint in if you're already gassed.
• Save Stamina Solution for when your maximum bar is clearly shaved down.

The controls are classic on purpose. They make you think before you move.

• Quick Turn: snap 180° instantly. It costs stamina, so don't spam it. Remap it if needed.
• Acceleration leaning adds visual feedback so you “feel” your momentum.
• Tank movement means forward is where you face, not the camera. Fixed angles will flip perspective.

Practical tips:

• Ease off the stick at camera cuts so you don't U-turn by accident.
• Practice corridor loops: backpedal, quick turn, two steps, turn, aim—turning these into muscle memory pays off.
• Map a comfortable sprint + quick turn combo on gamepad.

Space is tight and nothing stacks the way you want it to.

• Heal smart. Combine base solutions into stronger combo items—more effect, fewer slots.
• Track ammo like a budget. Once an area's picked clean, that's it. Missed shots can cost future progress.
• Use keys fast. They auto-discard when used, freeing slots.
• Temporarily drop junk to grab essentials, then circle back if it's still worth carrying.

• Platforms: Windows and Linux (64-bit). Needs 8GB RAM, DX11/12 or Vulkan, and around 1.5GB for the demo.
• Controllers: Keyboard/mouse, Xbox, and PlayStation are all supported. You can swap button glyphs between XInput and DS4 so prompts match your pad.
• Remap everything and run the interactive tutorial, especially to learn melee and the quick turn.

Safe combos rarely spell themselves out. The clues are there—you just have to interpret them.

• Hunt environmental hints. Notes, dates, birthdays, or “special days” often translate to codes.
• Read door text. “Locked from the other side” means find another route; specific keys are named; “sealed” likely needs puzzle progress.
• Adjust puzzle difficulty if you want clearer breadcrumbs. Higher settings demand lateral thinking and tying together multiple clues.

You wake up in a foggy forest as Douglas Hayles and wind up at a not-so-empty house. A clean route saves bullets and time.

• Sweep the first floor methodically before heading upstairs; backtracking with fixed cameras is slow.
• Engagements start early. Position carefully and prioritize headshots to avoid ammo spirals.
• Watch for prompts in the second section—updates added clearer inner monologue hints.
• Melee exists now. It's a safety net when ammo is dry, but stamina and spacing matter.
