Ovos de Páscoa

You can find several names scattered throughout the game—on Wanted posters, engraved into wood, on plaques, etc. These are references to community members who helped with the game’s development by participating in the alpha and beta tests.

Banjo-Kazooie reference

Ovos de Páscoa

The roadmap released by Rare to describe their plans for the game’s updates includes an area labeled “Treasure Trove Cove.” Treasure Trove Cove was the name of a world in Banjo-Kazooie, also developed by Rare.

Happy Birthday

Ovos de Páscoa

Music boxes at outposts sometimes play a few lines from “Happy Birthday.”

Achievement references

Ovos de Páscoa

Many of the achievement names and descriptions include references.

  • “Dead Pirates DO Tell Tales” is a reference to the famous pirate phrase “dead men tell no tales,” which meant killing someone was the best way to ensure their silence. (It may also be a nod to the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.)
  • “I Don’t See Your Ship” might be a reference to a line from the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
  • “You Can Always Trust the Untrustworthy” is another Pirates of the Caribbean line, as is “Now Bring Me That Horizon.”
  • “What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor” is a reference to a sea shanty called Drunken Sailor.
  • The achievements “You Fight Like a Merchant” and “How Appropriate! You Fight Like a Chicken” are references to the insult sword-fighting system in Secret of Monkey Island.
  • “Perfect Dark” is a reference to the game Perfect Dark, also made by Rare.
  • Two achievements reference “cronching” things, a nod to the “lov the cronch” meme.

Ferry of the Damned

Ovos de Páscoa

When you die, you appear on the Ferry of the Damned with all other dead players, until you’re able to respawn. It has a ghost captain who must take dead souls back to the land of the living for all eternity. This has some parallels with the legendary ghost ship The Flying Dutchman, which is doomed to sail forever.

Additionally, players have been searching for the Ferry of the Damned while alive, and mysterious lights underwater near the arch by N-14 might be the ship’s location.
