There is a monolith with a message that (when each line is read backwards) translates to: “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, we, The Kovax, sought to boldly go where no one had gone before. This impressively references Star Wars, Star Trek, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and 2001: A Space Odyssey in a single message.

Some starships have a cylindrical object sticking out of the wing that strongly resembles the way R2D2 looks while sitting in a fighter.

“A Scanner Darkly” is a reference to a sci-fi novel of the same name by Phillip K. Dick. Likewise, “Stranger in a Strange Land” references a sci-fi novel by Robert A. Heinlein, and “Forever War” references a sci-fi novel by Joe Haldeman.
