Cross-Platform Cheat Codes That Still Hold Up
CheatyPause the game, then punch these in. They’re different per platform and, yes, a couple are lifesavers.
- PlayStation 2
- Refill Health: Left, Right, Left, Right, R1, L1, Circle, Triangle, Down
- Invincibility (toggle): Up, Down, Right, Down, R1, R2, Down, Triangle, L1
- PC
- North American version: install the unsupported v1.1 patch or cheats won’t work.
- European version: cheats work without the patch.
- Refill Health (key functions): Left, Right, Left, Right, Suck, Autoface, TK, Lift, Down
- Tip: if you remapped keys, use whatever you bound those actions to.
- Xbox (original)
- Max Health + Max Telekinesis: Left, Left, Up, Up, Left Trigger, Black, B, Down, Y
- Infinite Reaver Charge: Down, Down, Up, Left, Right Trigger, Black, Down, Y, B
- Reminder: that’s the old-school “Black” face button, not a color swap of today’s controllers.
Use these to practice fights, blast through tricky sections, or just vibe with the story without stress.
Toon Mode and the Cardboard Tube Reaver
CheatyWanna turn Nosgoth into a Saturday morning cartoon? There’s a code for that.
- Toon Mode (PS2): Up, Down, Up, Down, R1, R2, Down, Circle, Triangle
- Gives Kain and Raziel exaggerated, expressive models and facial animations. The story’s still grim, the faces… not so much. Re-enter the code to toggle.
- Cardboard Tube Reaver (Kain only, PS2): Up, Down, Left, Right, R2, L2, Triangle, Down, Circle
- Make sure Toon Mode is OFF before activating. Functionally identical to the real Soul Reaver—just hilariously crunchy-sounding.
- Odd side effect: with some save/load trickery, Toon Mode can swap character models in Kain segments. If you want the full weirdness, check the glitch section below.
Cheat Engine Tweaks for PC
CheatyIf you’re on PC and comfortable with mod tools, a community Cheat Engine table lets you bend Defiance in fun ways. Back up saves first.
- XP multiplier: Level up combat abilities faster. Turn it off after maxing to avoid weirdness.
- Reaver gauge always full: Initialize by charging or landing hits; re-enable after using elemental Reavers.
- Infinite Telekinesis gauge: Great for puzzle-heavy zones and crowd control.
- Health edits: Nudge your survivability up if a section’s stonewalling you.
- Heavy damage / one-hit kills: Works on most enemies. Avoid during bosses (and spectral fodder) to prevent odd behavior.
- Damage output control: Fine-tune how hard you hit without going full glass cannon or god mode.
- Game speed: Speed things up to farm or slow it down for tight platforming.
Dark Chronicle Unlocks You’ll Want

Bonus Videos and Character Tomes
UnlockablesDefiance tucks a surprising amount of series love into its extras.
- Series openings
- Start a new game and create a save file to unlock the opening movies for both Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2.
- Making-of documentary
- Beat the game to unlock the “Making of Legacy of Kain: Defiance.” It’s packed with interviews, concept art, and tech talk.
- Character tomes
- Kain’s Tomes and Raziel’s Tomes unlock as you progress their routes and find entries tied to their stories. Do both paths to see it all.
Cut Storylines and Dev Secrets Fans Still Talk About
Easter EggsDefiance shipped leaner than the devs originally planned, and the leftovers paint a bigger, wilder game.
- Vorador’s resurrection arc
- A full storyline once explained his return after decapitation. It involved a human named Uma (a former priestess turned vampire) helping Raziel recover Vorador’s head—hidden inside the Mobius statue, of all places. Kain would reconnect with Vorador via a Signet ring, with tension simmering between mentor and the now-mightier student.
- The lost city in the Abyss
- The Abyss doubled as the Lake of the Dead, with hints that an entire civilization was dragged under by the Elder God. The Aztec-like ruins you see? Remnants of a cut, larger environment plan.
- Axed cinematics and set pieces
- Kain’s explosive slide escape from Janos’s Bastion, Ariel warning of the Nemesis legions advancing from the north—ambitious setpieces pared back for scope.
- Script overflow
- Publicly available Blood Omen-era scripts show pages of dialogue and ideas that didn’t make it—evidence of just how dense the original vision was.
Raziel-in-Kain’s Shoes Model Swap
UsterkiA funky side effect of Toon Mode lets you stroll through Kain’s chapters looking like Raziel—abilities unchanged.
- How to trigger
- Enable Toon Mode, save, restart the console, reload, then re-enter the Toon Mode code.
- Kain’s model can swap to Raziel while you keep Kain’s powers and story.
- What breaks (and what doesn’t)
- Gameplay and progression are fine. Cutscenes can look weird, but you won’t softlock.
- How long it lasts
- It sticks until you undo the steps or reset the model back.
Combat Stance Bug During Basin Puzzles
UsterkiIn some “spin the basin” or mechanism moments, your character snaps into combat stance and fixates on a wall—killing the interaction prompt.
- What’s happening
- The game falsely flags nearby geometry as a threat, auto-enabling combat stance and blocking puzzle input.
- Workarounds
- Approach the interact point from a different angle and give walls a wider berth.
- Set a fresh save before the area; if it triggers, reload and try a new approach vector.
- As a last resort, use a cheat to dampen combat pressure while you line up the interaction.
- Why it matters
- These are story-critical, so it can hard-stop progress until you finesse the angle.
Combat That Feels Good: Movement, Positioning, and Energy
WskazówkiDefiance rewards smart footwork and timing more than face-tanking. Play it like a stylish brawler, not a brawl.
- Move more, block less. Dodging keeps you alive and sets up back hits—where the damage is nicer and counters are rarer.
- Full combos are for 1v1s. In groups, hit-and-run. Tap out, reposition, repeat.
- Split the crowd. Use space, corners, and elevation to peel enemies away, then delete them one by one.
- Use the room. Environmental hazards aren’t just set dressing—shove, fling, or TK enemies into pain.
- Manage your meters. Keep Reaver energy for clutch moments; don’t burn your bar on mooks and regret it during a real fight.
- Know your targets. Heavy armor loves sustained pressure; agile foes need prediction and interrupts.
Every Health Talisman, TK Rune, and Arcane Tome
PrzewodnikiThree collectible types matter, and they’re tucked in places that test both traversal and curiosity.
- Health Talismans
- Permanent max HP boosts for both Kain and Raziel.
- Expect them in spots that flex each character’s movement kit—Sarafan Stronghold hides a bunch behind Kain’s leap/transforms and Raziel’s climbs/spectral tricks.
- Telekinesis Runes
- Expands your TK pool, crucial for late-game puzzles and control in fights.
- Heaviest clusters around puzzle-y spaces like the Cemetery and the Pillars. Scan corners, balconies, and objects you can only reach by TK moves.
- Arcane Tomes
- Lore gold and completion % juice.
- Vorador’s Mansion and Avernus Cathedral are stuffed with vampire history and religious war backstory. The placement often mirrors the topic—peek where the scenery “whispers.”
- Exploration tips
- Odd architecture? Decorative alcove? Suspiciously empty ledge? That’s designer for “check me.”
- If you’re light on TK or health later, you probably skipped early picks—loop back before big gauntlets.
