Unlocks and Upgrades: Spend Smart, Not Sorry

    Unlockables

    Know your currencies

  • Gold: common—great for early Shield/Melee basics.
  • Rubies: mid-game—invest in weapon mods that define your build.
  • Wraithstones: rare—save for endgame power spikes.
  • Early must-buy

  • Shield Saw: Retaliation. Parry creates an AoE shockwave that interrupts crowds. You’ll parry all game—make it pay.
  • Mod choices (and you can swap freely)

  • Weapons have A/B mods you can switch in the menu anytime.
  • Combat Shotgun + Incendiary stacks burns; pair with Smelt to rain armor shards. It’s sustain heaven on higher difficulties.
  • Mastery Missions

  • Fully upgrade a weapon to unlock its Mastery challenge.
  • Completing it unlocks gold skins and cranks up the style points.
  • Revisit earlier chapters later—everything’s easier with the full toolkit.
  • Exploit weaknesses

  • Plasma pops energy shields into explosions.
  • Chainshot chews through armored targets.
  • Shock-centric builds shred mobs—lean in when the arena fills up.
  • Best early upgrades in Doom: The Dark Ages—priority weapon, shield, and melee mods to unlock first to power up your build fast.

Every Easter Egg I’ve Found (So Far)

    Easter Eggs

    Terminator 2 thumbs-up

  • Stand in lava with zero health and the Slayer gives the iconic thumbs-up as he sinks. It’s morbid. It’s perfect.
  • Classic Doom throwbacks

  • HUD option to swap to the 1993 pixel face.
  • The Slayer’s glowing yellow eyes early on nod to IDDQD’s god-mode look.
  • Dopefish lives

  • In Harbor of Souls, after the blood pool, check the standing stones for the “Intimacy is Best” rune. A long-running id Software wink.
  • Caped skeleton mystery

  • Chapter 4, Sentinel Barracks, prison cells: a skeleton in a blue cape striking a heroic pose. Superman? Batman? Both? The debate rages.
  • Developer cameos

  • Early village zones can spawn wanted posters featuring Hugo Martin and other devs. Blink and you’ll miss ’em.
  • All Doom: The Dark Ages Easter Eggs and hidden secrets, featuring classic Doom callbacks, developer cameos, and sly references you might have missed.

Bugs and Exploits You Should Know

    Glitches

    Weapon wheel clipping

  • Open the weapon wheel and push into a wall/door to slowly phase through. Higher FPS = faster clipping. Useful for sequence breaks or cheeky shortcuts.
  • Berserker trophy bug (still lingering)

  • Even with patches, it can fail to pop if upgrades are bought across multiple chapters. The one-shrine, one-session method remains the safest bet.
  • PC trouble spots

  • RTX 40/50: G-Sync/V-Sync + FrameGen can crash. Disable them in the driver, toggle in-game instead.
  • V-Sync may look “on” when it’s not if FrameGen is active—cosmetic but confusing.
  • Alt-tabbing during launch can bury the app in the background. Avoid it.
  • Linux block

  • Recent updates enable anti-tamper that prevents Linux workarounds. If you were running it via compatibility layers, it’s currently a no-go.
  • General stability gremlins

  • Late-game save loads may crash.
  • Shield Saw charge/throw can spike instability.
  • MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner overlays make things worse—try disabling.
  • Resizing the window with FSR FrameGen on can hard-freeze.
  • Pulling a secondary monitor mid-session can lock the game.
  • Save/profile quirks

  • Consoles: profile swaps sometimes cross-wire saves.
  • Xbox PC app cloud sync can nuke your resolution and hide video options—reset settings manually if that happens.
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages best settings to boost performance and stability—tune V-Sync, G-Sync, Frame Generation, and more to reduce crashes, stutter, and visual quirks on PC.

    Combat Tips That Actually Matter

    Hints

    Master the Shield Saw

  • Blocking is clutch, but overuse triggers a cooldown—don’t turtle.
  • Shield Charge to close gaps, pop up to ledges, or bail out. It splashes damage, too.
  • See green projectiles? Parry to reflect and stagger. It’s free DPS and crowd control.
  • Play aggressively (the game wants you to)

  • Low on health? Enemies drop more health orbs. Push in, don’t backpedal.
  • Pair with upgrades that spit out armor/shield so you can sustain in the blender.
  • Use the right tool for the mess

  • Combat/Super Shotguns: face-melters up close.
  • Impaler: reliable range with spikes.
  • Pulverizer: wide horizontal sweeps for lines of fodder.
  • Chainshot: impact shockwaves on upgrade—great for packs.
  • Rocket Launcher: range plus splash, the flexible fallback.
  • Hunt leaders first

  • Enemies with colored orbs = permanent Sentinel upgrades:
  • Blue: max health
  • Green: shield capacity
  • Yellow: ammo reserves
  • They’re often off-path, but absolutely worth detouring.
  • Atlan mech basics

  • Strings of hits fill a combo meter for huge stomps and finishers.
  • Taking damage resets that meter—patience pays.
  • Perfect dodge to supercharge your swings. Big robot, bigger timing window.
  • Become a combat god in Doom: The Dark Ages with 23 advanced tips and tricks. Master movement, parries, weapon swaps, and fight strategy to dominate arenas and bosses.
