Xbox One Controllers Made More Precise for Titanfall?

February 13, 2014 by Staff - Leave a comment

With Titanfall’s beta almost upon us and the full game’s release not far away, Microsoft has a lot of updates and changes planned to prepare the Xbox One, some of which extend to the device’s controller. According to a representative from Respawn Entertainment who spoke to online publication “TheVerge”, Respawn and Microsoft have been working together to increase the precision of the controller’s analog sticks.

If you buy a special edition Titanfall controller, you’ll have the updated version, but other Xbox One players will have their controllers enhanced before Titanfall’s release, as well. Microsoft has yet to say how players will update their controller firmware, but we’ll let you know as soon as we have more details.

Control your PS4 or Xbox One with a keyboard and mouse

January 1, 2014 by Staff - Leave a comment

If you’re like us, then you’ll prefer playing first person shooters with the help of a keyboard and mouse, something that obviously isn’t possible (at the moment) with either the Playstation 4 or the Xbox One. It also probably means that you’ve been getting dominated online thanks to the clumsy control schemes offered by the DualShock 4 or Xbox One controller.

It looks like your time getting owned online could be about to come to an end thanks to a new XIM adapter for next generation consoles that is currently being worked on. As you’ll note from watching the video embedded below, the new XIM works with the Xbox One currently, but there are plans to get it up and running the PS4 too.

This “next generation of adapter” also has a few other new advantages too, with you being able to configure it wirelessly via an Android mobile app. Previously, with the Xbox 360/PS3 adapter, you needed to hook it up to your PC. The XIM 4 will be out later this year and is currently undergoing internal testing. We understand that a limited beta will also be undertaken for those who purchased certain previous XIM products.

Using the PS4 DualShock 4 controller on your PC

December 8, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

Want to use your PS4 DualShock 4 controller on your PC and have most of its functions work correctly? Then you need to check out this custom XInput wrapper created by one enterprising person.

The thing with the DS4 controller is that it uses DirectInput instead of the XInput standard. XInput is used by the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller and is also used in most PC games. Hence it is “the standard” for controller operations on a PC. Given that the DualShock 4 uses another standard, this creates a problem.

Thankfully that problem has been solved by “InhexSTER” who created an XInput wrapper that you can download here. What it does it make it look like your DualShock 4 controller is a XInput powered Xbox 360 controller. You can then map the buttons as you want and use it normally.

The only thing is that if you want to use the rumble feedback features of your DualShock, you’ll need to download the beta drivers. Anyway, it’s all explained in the Youtube clip embedded below. Enjoy!

Xbox One voice commands and controller tips with Major Nelson

December 5, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

The face of Xbox, Major Nelson, has produced a hints and tips video that outlines a lot of the voice command and special controller features of the Xbox One.

In the clip, which we’ve embedded below, he runs you though shortcuts with the controller, how to make the best use of voice commands (including the magic words, importantly!). Probably the most useful new command that we learned is “Xbox Select”. Say this and every single voice command will be highlighted on the screen as an option.

What Xbox One command do you find yourself using the most?

Grab a DualShock 4 controller & PS4 camera in the US today

October 24, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

Just a couple of days ago we posted that EB Games stores in Canada were letting some users pick up their pre-ordered DualShock 4 controllers and take them home. Well it now appears that the news isn’t limited to Canada and that GameStop stores in the United States are also letting gamers pick up both DualShock 4 controllers and Playstation 4 cameras. Here’s what to look for in case you’re wondering:

So if you live in the States, give your local GameStop store a call and see if they’ve got any PS4 controllers or cameras they’d like to sell you… You won’t be able to use the camera until the Playstation 4 console is released, but games that support USB input on the PS3 will glady let you play them with the DualShock 4. Enjoy!

Thanks to Twitter user khailcon for the image.

EB Games Canada selling DualShock 4 controllers – now?

October 22, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

Certain EB Games stores in Canada appear to be displaying the DualShock 4 controller that will come bundled with the Playstation 4 console (and which isn’t being released until next month, we might add).

It’s not altogether clear whether the controllers are for sale outright just yet, but some users who pre-ordered a standalone controller have reported that they’ve been able to walk in and take one home.

As for whether those lucky people will be able to actually use their new controller before November (with their Playstation 3 console that is), well that depends on the game. If it supports USB input then you’ll be able to use it. Unfortunately if it’s bluetooth only input then you’re out of luck.

Thanks Portaljacker

An artistic take on Xbox One controller design

September 1, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

The team at Xbox recently asked a group of eight artists to come up with some designs for the Xbox One controller. The pic below is what they came up with.

To be honest we aren’t sure that we like any of them! Maybe a bit too artistic…

Take control with the new Xbox One controller

August 23, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

Microsoft is really talking up the features of its new Xbox One controller and has released this helpful infographic just to let you know about all the changes.

There has been over 40 enhancements made over and above the current Xbox 360 controller after all (which is pretty darn good in it’s own right!) so the new controller should be something else…

Features we’re most looking forward to include the new rumble motors in the triggers, new thumbsticks and also closer ABXY buttons. What are you most looking forward to?

Official DualShock 4 charger and PS4 stand revealed

August 21, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

Sony has just released details on two official accessories that you’ll be able to grab for your new Playstation 4 console… introducing the DualShock 4 Charger and the PS4 Vertical Stand.

European pricing has only be announced so far but we expect US and other region pricing to be revealed shortly. The charger will set you back €29, while the stand costs €19.

Here’s some pics and the official description for each item:

DualShock 4 Charger

By utilizing the charging station, users will be able to charge up to two DualShock 4 Wireless Controllers at once without having to connect them to the PS4 system. Users can charge DualShock4 by simply inserting the controller to the charging connector on the charging station and by plugging it into a household electrical outlet.

PS4 Vertical Stand

The Vertical Stand will allow users to set PS4 in a vertical position, making it easier to place the system anywhere they wish. The Vertical Stand comes in black with a glossy finish that matches perfectly with the PS4 system. Users are able to attach the Vertical Stand to PS4 without using any additional tools; they simply have to adjust the stand to the PS4 system and screw the pinch by hand to lock.

Sony unveils official blue and red PS4 controllers

August 20, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

European gamers might be getting the Playstation 4 two weeks after their North American counterparts, but they are getting these two new DualShock 4 controller color variations first…

Today Sony revealed the new controller colors – “Magma Red” and “Wave Blue” and said that they’ll be available upon the launch of the PS4 in Europe on November 29 with a RRP of €59 / £54. The controllers will also become available in North and Latin America later this year.

Sony says that the colors represent “two of the most popular colors among PlayStation users” so they must have done their research. What do you think of the look?
