The third “next generation” console covered here at Cheats.co is the Nintendo Wii U. We don’t often write about it though because, well, it’s just not that popular and has been pretty much written off by nearly all hardcore gamers and a good portion of everyone else.

Notwithstanding it, the Wii U does bring with it some beloved franchises like Mario Bros and of course Zelda. It does have some decent games, it’s just that the console doesn’t really have widespread appeal. It’s next-gen, but not next-gen enough to warrant buying one over a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 (for most people anyway).

One thing that the Wii U has over the aforementioned consoles, and even their next-generation counterparts, the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One, is the number of native 1080p high resolution game titles available. As CinemaBlend points out, the Wii U has six native 1080p games versus four such games on the PS4 and only two on the Xbox One (note: CB actually list Killer Instinct on the Xbox 360 at 1080p but it’s 720p).

Native 1080p Games

Wii U

  1. Super Smash Bros. U
  2. Bayonetta 2
  3. Mario Kart 8
  4. Rayman Legends
  5. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  6. Wind Waker HD

Playstation 4

  1. KillZone: Shadow Fall (MP only)
  2. DriveClub
  3. Flower
  4. Resogun

Xbox One

  1. Forza Motorsport 5
  2. Call of Duty: Ghosts

Obviously the situation will change over time as more games are released for the PS4 and Xbox One (heck the consoles are even out yet), but given there is a substantial amount of release titles also arriving with those consoles, it’s kinda surprising that more aren’t running full 1080p.

So which is the real next-generation console?
