There is no way to guarantee an appearance of the kraken, but it seems to occur more frequently when multiple players are in the same spot.

The ocean turns black when the kraken appears.

If you encounter the kraken and don’t want to fight it, you have a small window of time between the ocean turning black and the kraken appearing in which you can escape.

If you’re going to fight the kraken, make sure you’re ready to repair your ship during the battle, as it will deal damage to the ship.

Tentacles with mouths can grab players, so be careful.

The sword dash can be used to let you travel quickly through water. Prepare your dash either next to the water or in the shallows right ahead of the water. If you time it correctly, the speed will last for much longer once you enter the water.
