Leon: The Professional

Zenyatta’s line, “Death is whimsical today” is a reference to the movie Leon: The Professional.

 

Hero of My Storm

Another movie poster in Hollywood says “Hero of My Storm,” a reference to Heroes of the Storm.

 

Murlocs

One of the soda machines in the Hanamura arcade has a murloc from the Warcraft universe at the bottom. A murloc is also depicted on an advertisement in Hanamura for a ramen noodle shop, and if you shoot the murloc, it will make the typical murloc sound. Murloc graffiti can also be found at the Temple of Anubis.

 

Back in Black

Reaper’s line, “I’m back in black” is a reference to the song Back In Black.

 

Star Trek

Tjorbjörn’s line, “I’m giving it all I’ve got” is a reference to Scotty from Star Trek.

 

The Iron Giant

Bastion’s “Alert! Alert!” emote is a reference to the movie The Iron Giant.

 

Monopoly

The jail spray’s caption, “Go directly to jail” is a reference to the Monopoly board game.

 

Kingdom Hearts

In Dorado, the tents at the first payload checkpoint depict hearts in a style very similar to the logo of the Kingdom Hearts series.

 

Konami Code

D.Va occasionally recites the Konami Code.

 

Temple of Anubis

The Temple of Anubis spawn area includes a tablet with Hearthstone on it and the skull of a Zerg from StarCraft.

 

The Dark Knight

Junkrat’s line, “Why so serious?” is a reference to the Joker’s line in The Dark Knight.

 

Soldier 77, 78, 79...

If you play a match with multiple AI-controlled Soldier 76s, the game will refer to them as Soldier 77, Soldier 78, and so on.

 

Fist of the North Star

Hanzo’s line, “You are already dead,” which is his Halloween line, is a reference to Fist of the North Star.

 

Pokémon

Hanzo’s line, “I choose you, Spirit Dragon” is a reference to the Pokémon series, particularly the anime, where characters frequently shout out “I choose you” while sending their Pokémon into battle.

 

Apocalypse Now

Soldier 76’s line, “I love the smell of pulse munitions in the morning” is a reference to the famous Apocalypse Now quote: “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.”

 

Jim Raynor

A 16-bit Jim Raynor from StarCraft is on display outside of the Hanamura arcade.

Junkrat’s line, “Remember, remember… what the heck was I saying again?” is a reference to Guy Fawkes. A poem is used by people to remember Guy Fawkes Day, and it begins with “Remember, remember the Fifth of November.”

 

Frozen

Mei’s line, “You have to let it go” is a reference to the Disney movie Frozen.

Route 66's Restaurant

The restaurant on Route 66 has a check signed by Deckard Cain, a Diablo character. There is also a comic called “Craft from the Stars,” a reference to StarCraft. The restaurant’s soda fountain is marked with the StarCraft Zerg symbol. The drink called Dr. Boom served at the restaurant is a nod to an NPC in World of Warcraft.

The names on the walk of fame in Hollywood are also the names of the main characters from The Lost Vikings.

Pharah’s line, “Fly like an Egyptian” is a reference to the song Walk Like an Egyptian.

 

Apollo 13

Winston’s line, “Houston, we have a problem” is a reference to the famous quote during the Apollo 13 NASA mission. Although the actual statement made during Apollo 13 is “Houston, we’ve had a problem here,” it is popularly misquoted as “Houston, we have a problem.”

 

Sherlock

Reaper’s line, “I’m not a psychopath… I’m a high-functioning psychopath” is a reference to the TV show Sherlock.

 

Ghost in the Shell

Sombra’s “Deaf-Mute” spray is a reference to the Laughing Man in Ghost in the Shell.

 

D.Va Style

D.Va’s line “Op op op D.Va style” is a reference to Gangnam Style.

 

King Henry

Winston’s line, “Once more unto the breach” is a reference to Shakespeare’s “King Henry” play.

 

Some Like It Bot

Lúcio can be used as a distraction by going to high points on the map to draw your opponents’ attention away from the rest of the team.

Aim D.Va’s ultimate into the air so that it will explode in midair and shower down on your opponents from above, making it harder to dodge.
