Passes with Aim

Hints

In NHL 23, the winning team is usually the one that spends the most time attacking, and some teams' ability to dominate you in the offensive zone is greatly attributed to their accurate and quick passing. It's one of the best tips for beginners because good teams always move the puck to the open area of the ice to create a scoring opportunity. You've probably noticed, though, that occasionally your passes can take a wild turn and veer off course from the intended target.

The most likely cause of this is that you either didn't aim your pass or aimed it incorrectly. Few people, however, are aware that the left joystick, which also moves your player, is used to aim your passes. To ensure that the pass lands exactly where you want it to, always point your player in that direction when making a pass. It will take some time to get the hang of it, but once you do, you'll be controlling the opposing zone and passing like a pro.

Always Up or a Relative Camera

Hints

The majority of players shoot the puck using the joystick, regardless of the controls they're using. Using hybrid controls will have the same effect. Few players are aware that changing sides in between periods will change the camera angle, which will impact how you shoot.

When skating up the ice, you push up with your left joystick and flick up with your right joystick to shoot. But if you’re pushing your left joystick down to skate up the ice, you need to pull the right joystick up and flick it down to shoot. Given that the second action is the opposite of what you're used to, it may feel a little strange.

However, you can set it to "Always Up" so that you always flick up to shoot while pulling back on the right joystick. Go to options, controls, and then under controls, where it says "Shooting Controls," change it to "Always Up." In this manner, shooting while moving in the opposite direction will seem more natural.
