How to Perform a Combo

Hints

To perform a combo, you must start with any basic attack. This is your combo Opener. The next step is either an Auto-Double move or a Manual move. You can perform an Auto-Double and attack immediately by hitting any button, but your opponent might break it. To perform a Manual, you must enter the command for the attack right at the end of your previous move. You need excellent timing to pull it off, but it is much harder for your opponent to break. Next, you must use a Linker or Shadow Linker, a medium special move that connects the combo to your next move, which should be another Auto-Double or Manual. Essentially, Linker moves lengthen your combo by tying multiple attacks together. Complete your combo with a heavy special move known as an Ender to deal a lot of damage.

Take a Break

Hints

Each match consists of only a single round, but both players have two health bars. When a character loses all of their health in the first health bar (the green one), they fall to the ground. Once they get up, there is a brief period where players can move around to prepare for the rest of the fight.

How to Perform a Combo-Breaker

Hints

To perform a Combo-Breaker, you must press both the punch and kick buttons that equal the level of your opponent's move.

Counter-Breakers

Hints

If you perform a Counter-Breaker, you will stop your own combo. If your opponent tries to break your combo while you are performing your Counter-Breaker, they will be blocked from using Combo-Breakers for the next four seconds.

Shadow Attacks Meter

Hints

The blue Shadow Meter at the bottom of your screen is what allows you to perform Shadow Attacks. A Shadow Attack depletes half of the bar, and is performed by pressing two punch/kick buttons. In combos, a Shadow Linker is harder for your opponent to break and deals more damage than a regular Linker.

Shadow Linker

Hints

A Shadow Linker involves five hits. If you can block three of them, you will have performed a Shadow-Breaker. However, the announcer counts out loud when you block these hits, which may lead your opponent to stop you.

Shadow Counter

Hints

If your Shadow Meter is at least half full, you can perform a Shadow Counter, which is a Combo-Breaker followed up by a Shadow Attack.

Knockout Value Meter

Hints

When you attack an opponent, a Knockout Value meter will appear. It will fill up as you attack, and knock your opponent away when it fills up. To inflict the maximum amount of damage with a combo, you should fill up the meter as much as you can during your combo, but perform your Ender move before it is completely full.

Instinct Meter

Hints

The Instinct Meter at the top of the screen will fill up when you take damage and perform combos. When it is completely filled, you will be able to enter Instinct Mode, which will clear the Knockout Value meter and provide you with other unique options as well.

Perform an Ultra Combo

Hints

If your opponent is on their second health bar (the red one), and the bar is down to 15% or less, you can perform an Ultra Combo against them. Ultra Combos vary depending on the character. They are devastating attacks that will likely defeat your weakened opponent.
