How to Perform a Combo
HintsTo perform a combo, you must start with any basic attack. This is your combo Opener. The next step is either an Auto-Double move or a Manual move. You can perform an Auto-Double and attack immediately by hitting any button, but your opponent might break it. To perform a Manual, you must enter the command for the attack right at the end of your previous move. You need excellent timing to pull it off, but it is much harder for your opponent to break. Next, you must use a Linker or Shadow Linker, a medium special move that connects the combo to your next move, which should be another Auto-Double or Manual. Essentially, Linker moves lengthen your combo by tying multiple attacks together. Complete your combo with a heavy special move known as an Ender to deal a lot of damage.

Take a Break
HintsEach match consists of only a single round, but both players have two health bars. When a character loses all of their health in the first health bar (the green one), they fall to the ground. Once they get up, there is a brief period where players can move around to prepare for the rest of the fight.
How to Perform a Combo-Breaker
HintsTo perform a Combo-Breaker, you must press both the punch and kick buttons that equal the level of your opponent's move.
Counter-Breakers
HintsIf you perform a Counter-Breaker, you will stop your own combo. If your opponent tries to break your combo while you are performing your Counter-Breaker, they will be blocked from using Combo-Breakers for the next four seconds.
Shadow Attacks Meter
HintsThe blue Shadow Meter at the bottom of your screen is what allows you to perform Shadow Attacks. A Shadow Attack depletes half of the bar, and is performed by pressing two punch/kick buttons. In combos, a Shadow Linker is harder for your opponent to break and deals more damage than a regular Linker.
Shadow Linker
HintsA Shadow Linker involves five hits. If you can block three of them, you will have performed a Shadow-Breaker. However, the announcer counts out loud when you block these hits, which may lead your opponent to stop you.
Shadow Counter
HintsIf your Shadow Meter is at least half full, you can perform a Shadow Counter, which is a Combo-Breaker followed up by a Shadow Attack.
Knockout Value Meter
HintsWhen you attack an opponent, a Knockout Value meter will appear. It will fill up as you attack, and knock your opponent away when it fills up. To inflict the maximum amount of damage with a combo, you should fill up the meter as much as you can during your combo, but perform your Ender move before it is completely full.
Instinct Meter
HintsThe Instinct Meter at the top of the screen will fill up when you take damage and perform combos. When it is completely filled, you will be able to enter Instinct Mode, which will clear the Knockout Value meter and provide you with other unique options as well.
Perform an Ultra Combo
HintsIf your opponent is on their second health bar (the red one), and the bar is down to 15% or less, you can perform an Ultra Combo against them. Ultra Combos vary depending on the character. They are devastating attacks that will likely defeat your weakened opponent.
Remixed Classic Character Music
Easter EggsWhen you start a match, you and the other player must both remain idle for about 10 seconds. The music will change to a remixed theme of a classic character the character depends on the stage you are in and play until one of the players performs an action, at which point the music will return to normal.
Guide to Playing as Spinal
GuidesFollow the guide below to best use Spinal.
- His strongest ranged normal attack is Standing HP, but Crouching HP works well as an anti-air attack and Jump HP is a strong air-to-air attack.
- Players can block Dive Kick either standing or crouching.
- Spinal needs skulls to be used to his full potential. If you do not have any skulls, you should focus on getting some. You can hold up to five at a time, and you get skulls by ending combos with Searing Skull, using his throws, using Power Devour to absorb a special attack, or using Instinct.
- If you have to fight without any Skull Power, stay at the maximum range of your standing heavy punch. You can cancel it into medium Boneshaker and then use Skeleport to avoid a counterattack.
- When the medium Searing Skull is blocked, it is +2.
- When you use Searing Skull to end a combo, it opens up a lot of opportunities. Use the heavy (overhead) version of Searing Skull and then launch run mix-ups. Slide Kick is a possibility, because if you time it correctly, Searing Skull will keep your opponent from punishing you in response. If you use the Shield Crush overhead, you can cancel it into a special move to make it safe, and then use light/medium Bonecrusher, any version of Soul Sword, or medium Searing Skull.
- Another strategy is to use Skeleport, then run and throw or run and use a second overhead Searing Skull to reset the mix-up.
- If you choose to use a medium Searing Skull, you will get +2 if it's blocked, and if it hits, you can start a combo.
- Another strategy is to use a light Searing Skull from just past halfway across the screen and then run toward your opponent. Spinal will get there first, and can begin a mix-up. If the opponent jumps away, use a jump heavy punch or a heavy Searing Skull.
- Skeleport is a risky move unless you have Skull Power to cancel the heavy version into a special move, or if it's covered by Searing Skull so your opponent cannot punish you. It is the best wake-up option, because Spinal will be invincible until he reappears, but if your opponent predicts that you will use it, you could be in trouble.
- Light Skeleport, on the other hand, is a great defensive option, because your opponent will have to anticipate it to punish you.
Ender Properties
- Boneshaker - Wall Splat
- Soul Sword - Juggle State
- Skeleport - Maximum Damage
- Searing Skull - Gain Skulls
