Atari 2600 Controller

Easter Eggs

If you were to head over to Goo Lagoon, take a look around and search for a bunch of sandcastles in the sand. There are a few of them, but if you look closely, there is a sandcastle that some people might recognize. One of the sandcastles that have been built on the beach looks like an old Atari 2600 game controller.

Greetings from the Developers

Easter Eggs

If you were to explore Downtown Bikini Bottom, take a look around for the barrel that is used as the bank. If you head behind the bank, you will notice a metal building that has an opening in it. Enter this building and take a look on your left, you will notice a bunch of plants arranged in a pattern to form the word “Hi”. A cute little message from the developers of this game.

MoCkInG sPoNgEbOb

Easter Eggs

One of the least discovered references in games are those of the idle animations, I mean, who sits around doing nothing for long enough? In this Spongebob game, one of the idle animations that Spongebob does is based on the popular meme “Mocking Spongebob”.

Surprised Patrick

Easter Eggs

Head on over to the police station and find the computer that has descriptions of all the criminals in Bikini Bottom. Scroll on over to the description of Ham-Mer, You might notice that his description bears a scary resemblance to a line from the movie “Silence of the Lambs”. The description mentions “and a nice chianti” which is spoken in the movie by Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

Kacpi26 brings up the reference from Silence of the Lambs.

Tea at the Treedome

Easter Eggs

When inside Sandy’s Treedome, next to the entrance, you will notice that Patrick is standing outside trying to see inside. This references the episode “Tea at the Treedome” where Spongebob plans to have tea with Sandy in her dome. Being a game based on a popular TV Cartoon, there are many references to episodes, this is one of the more prevalent ones that are not too subtle to miss.

Kacpi26 reveals Patrick peeking through the Treedome when you are inside.

Missing the Bus

Easter Eggs

When playing the level Rock Bottom, if you were to approach the vending machine located next to the road, you will get a small cutscene where a bus arrives and then immediately leaves before you can do anything. Some might not recognize it, but it is a reference to one of the early Spongebob Episodes “Rock Bottom” where that exact situation keeps happening to Spongebob. Missing the bus is always frustrating.

Kacpi26 shows us the reference to the missed bus episode.
