In Pharaoh: A New Era, food and water are vital resources to sustain your populations. Farming is one of the most popular methods of generating food in the game, it also produces some raw materials that you can use to craft items.

There are five different types of farms that will produce the bulk of your food; Figs, Chickpeas, Grain, Pomegranate, and Lettuce. Every fruit or grain can be harvested at different times of the year. You will unfortunately be limited to the amount of farms available in the game.

You'll only be able to build a farm on a flowering meadow or on the floodplains near the Nile. Farming on a floodplain is naturally risky as the Nile water levels frequently rise in different seasons. The Nilometer, at the top of the screen, will indicate the strength of the flooding.

Building a farm on a meadow also has its own problems, as the soil isn't the most fertile and won't necessarily yield the best results, until the land is irrigated. In order to irrigate your crops, you'll need to build a water lift next to the Nile river and connect it to the road.

The irrigation process is labour intensive and requires six workers to operate. Once you have connected the water lift to the road, you'll need to build an irrigation ditch two blocks away from your farm. Connect the irrigation ditch to your water pump and your farm will now be irrigated.
