Guarding

You can keep your guard up by holding down the “punch” key. This will protect you from incoming attacks. Double-tapping the “front” or “back” keys will enable you to perform a dodge in the chosen direction. It is good to adopt this defensive state during combat and protect yourself from potential surprise attacks.

Counters

Pressing the “punch” and “kick” keys simultaneously will allow you to execute a counter. This will instantly dispatch unarmed enemies and disarm those with weapons. To acquire an armed enemy’s weapon and eliminate them, you must press the “back” key. If you kick enemies while in a guarding state, you will consistently perform counters against enemies.

Grappling

If you approach an enemy during combat, it will initiate a grapple, rendering them vulnerable to an attack or a swift wrestling maneuver leading to an instant takedown. You can perform various wrestling moves by double-tapping a directional key, which allows you to reposition yourself or face a different direction, giving you tactical flexibility.

Holding the “punch” key during a wrestling animation keeps you on guard after completing the move. Remember that not all enemies can be grappled; even if they can, grappling them won’t be the best strategy.

Weapons

Acquiring a weapon will alter your combat until you eventually lose it:

  • Sword - A sword will transform your “punch” into a sweeping strike and your “kick” into a teep kick that disrupts your enemies. Holding down “punch” and hitting “kick” simultaneously will initiate a thrusting stab that will hit multiple enemies in one fluid motion. Unfortunately, wielding a sword makes you susceptible to most attacks.
  • Gun - A gun will convert your “punch” into aiming and your “kick” into firing. The gun is best utilized if your aiming skill is maximized, which you can do in the pawnshop backroom and ensure lethal accuracy with every shot.
Pressing the “punch” key while holding the “item” key in enemy territory will draw your gun. You’ll have to use all seven bullets in your magazine to undraw your gun.
  • Knives - These single-use weapons are highly effective and can be acquired from enemies wielding them. If you tap the “punch” key while at close range, you can stab an enemy, and if you tap it at long range, you can throw the knife for an instant kill
