For the best ending, everyone must survive.

• Sam – Successfully get past all of the QTE events in Chapter 10.
• Josh – Make sure you find Hannah’s journal.
• Chris – Spare Ashley in Chapter 6, survive the Wendigo in Chapter 8, and don’t investigate the hatch in Chapter 9.
• Jessica – Catch up to her as quickly as possible in Chapter 4 and hide in Chapter 10.
• Emily – Start the elevator and successfully complete the QTEs in Chapter 8, don’t shoot her, and hide in Chapter 10 instead of running to the switch.
• Matt – Either don’t hurt the deer or complete the QTE in Chapter 6, jump to safety later in Chapter 6, and hide in Chapter 10.
• Ashley – Sacrifice Josh in Chapter 4, don’t investigate the hatch in Chapter 9, and hide every time in Chapter 10.
• Mike – Successfully get past all of the QTE events in Chapter 10 and choose to help Mike when you get the option.
• The “Save Mike” and “Hide” options in the lodge, along with the QTEs, are critical to making sure everyone survives.

For the worst ending, no one can survive. Do the opposite of the advice above, and Sam and Mike should be the only survivors at the lodge in the end. Fail the QTE events.

Aside from these two primary endings, your ending will be different depending on which characters survive.

Branching scenes you'll rarely stumble into:

• Matt vs. Emily (Ch. 6): If you saw Mike hug Emily via telescope earlier and choose u201Cu2026Suspicious,u201D u201CPersistent,u201D and u201CInsistent,u201D Matt confronts her and she apologizes.
• Ashley's take on Hannah (Ch. 6): Pick a Dismissive response and a plank smacks Chrisu2014like Hannah's spirit isn't having it.
• Emily's Trust (Ch. 5): Help her through the window, then walk away. She panics and scolds you about u201Ca breakdown of trust.u201D
• Beth's head (credits): If Emily survives solo and found it in Ch. 7, she mentions the creature u201Ccollects thingsu201D during questioning.

Every character has shifting personality meters and relationship links that respond to your choices.

• Base traits differ by character (e.g., persuasive, brave, charitable).
• Choices nudge traits up or down, subtly shaping dialogue and behavior.
• Relationship levels unlock help or refusal in clutch moments.
• Status screen shows meters and bondsu2014check it to plan social damage control.

Some traits can even influence QTE leniency by a hair. Small, but real.

Until Dawn has many references to the horror movies it is a tribute to.

• The setting, “light of my life line,” and axe scene are all references to The Shining.
• The false protagonist at the start is similar to the setup of Psycho.
• The scene with the deer is similar to a scene from The Ring 2.
• Chris’s hockey mask is a reference to Jason’s mask in Friday the 13th.
• Josh’s costume resembles the costume worn by Michael Myers in Halloween.
• The Psycho’s method of torture games is similar to Jigsaw’s methods in Saw.
• The way the Psycho has been observing the group may be a reference to Cabin in the Woods.
• The reveal about Josh is similar to that of Scream and April Fool’s Day. It also has similarities to I Know What You Did Last Summer.
• Every trophy name references a horror movie.
• The mine setting is similar to that of My Bloody Valentine.
• The Wendigo resembles the creatures from The Descent. However, keep in mind that the Wendigo is a creature from mythology and folklore.
• The reveal of the Wendigo’s identity parallels the way the monsters are identified in the movie The Cave.

During the scene where Mike explores with his flashlight, his green jacket and the surrounding environment make the scene reminiscent of Silent Hill 2.

In Chapter 2, while controlling Matt and Emily, wipe the snow off the picnic table, then interact again. You'll reveal a heart carved with u201CEmilyu201D and u201CMike.u201D It's a tiny gut-punch for Matt that helps contextualize later tension and dialogue choices.

When Sam explores the lodge post-bath, the living room TV can flick on to pure static. Turn it off, wait a beat, and it'll spark back to lifeu2014complete with a blink-and-you-miss-it jumpscare meant more for you than Sam. A perfect early chill.

At the Chapter 1 shooting range, try doing nothing. If Chris just stands there, Sam starts teasing him with lines like u201CI don't think your targets are going anywhere.u201D It's a playful nod to player inaction as a valid choice.

Check the Washington Lodge's cinema room. You'll spot posters nodding to horror filmmaker and co-writer Larry Fessendenu2014titles like Stake Land, Bitter Feast, The Innkeepers, and Wendigo. Fittingly meta, since Fessenden also plays the Stranger.

After Sam's bath, hang near the bathroom for about a minute. Her MP3 player will start whispering u201CO'Deathu201Du2014the game's themeu2014through the headphones. It's eerie foreshadowing. In the PS5 remake, the opening changed, so this is a rarer place to catch it.

In Chapter 3's woods chase to the guest cabin, deliberately botch every QTE. You'll unlock a snippet where Jessica yells at Mike for fumbling, and Mike blurts u201CI don't know!u201D It's very in-character and surprisingly funny mid-chaos.

The trophy list is a love letter to horror cinema. A few playful nods:

• Sneak past a Wendigo: nail the Don't Move and catch the rolling bottle.
• Two Wendigos near the bridge: roll the barrel and shoot it cleanly.

Final choice: When pursued, choose Barricade the door. Fleeing or hesitating gets Wolfie killed. Protect him through all that, and he makes it out.
