Developer Room/Secret EndingEaster Eggs
In the shortcut to the theater room, you’ll pass a drawn puzzle solution. Use this puzzle solution on the panel that originally deactivated the force field at the start of the game that separated the tutorial section from the rest of the game world. This will activate a new puzzle involving the sun. Once you solve it, you’ll be able to enter a secret developer room that includes audio logs as well as a live action video of one of the developers.
Perspective Easter EggsEaster Eggs
There are numerous perspective-based secrets throughout The Witness. Basically, these are parts of the environment that look normal or like nothing special when viewed from most angles, but come together to look like something else when viewed from a specific angle. For example, there are trees that look like fish when you view their reflection, a statue whose shadow is juggling, shapes that take form to tell a story through gaps in a wall, and many more.
Braid referenceEaster Eggs
The sand castle in the Glass Factory is a nod to the artwork for Braid.
Dog StatueEaster Eggs
There are numerous statues located throughout the island. One of them is at the end of a small path that starts along the water’s edge between the town and Entry areas, and goes along the rocks. The path is a dead end, but there is a dog statue there.
Get the Boat and MapUnlockables
At the dock in the Marsh area, there is a puzzle that will spawn a boat once you solve it. The boat also includes a map of the island. You can use this boat and map to travel between docks, enabling you to traverse the island faster, and it will also let you reach some secret puzzles.
There are numerous environmental puzzles throughout the game, and each area has an obelisk that indicates how many environmental puzzles there are in that area. The obelisk turns white once you solve them all, although it does not appear that there is any additional change/reward for turning every obelisk white.
All Audio Log LocationsHints
There are 49 audio logs in the game, all of which contribute to the game’s atmosphere, lore, etc. They are very small, which makes them difficult to notice, and sometimes they are in areas you can’t reach. Once you find one, however, you’ll be able to interact with it from a distance even if you can’t reach it.
If you’re having trouble finding all of the audio logs, use the video guide below to find them (not including the audio logs in the secret developer room ending).
All Briefcases and Theater VideosHints
Six videos can be played in the Theater, but to get the codes for the terminal, you need to find the hidden briefcases. You’ll need to solve puzzles to reach the briefcases, after which you can open them to find hexagonal codes for the theater. Each code, when entered at the theater terminal, will unlock one of the videos. The videos themselves are quite lengthy and come from various sources.
Discarded Panels/Triangle PuzzlesHints
The Discarded Panels (aka the orange triangle puzzles) serve a couple of purposes, although they don’t specifically do anything. First, they are meant to be tutorials. They teach you how to solve the triangle puzzles so you can unlock the final challenge area. (Note: solving these puzzles is not necessary. They are just simpler puzzles meant to teach you how.) Second, they can be considered a collectible, and since they themselves are puzzles, you’ll want to find them if you want to solve every puzzle in the game.
If you’re having trouble finding or solving them, use the video guide below for help.
