If you take a boat off the coast of Leaf Links and look underwater while you’re near the Downtown area, you’ll see a man in cement shoes. This is a reference to the infamous mafia method of disposing of bodies.

Autocide Movie references

In the mission “Autocide,” the character Dick Tanner is a reference to Tanner from the Driver video game series. The mission also includes a character named Nick Kong, a reference to Nick Kang Williams from the game True Crime: Streets of LA. Finally, it features characters named Marcus Hammond, Franco Carter, and Charlie Dilson, references to Mark Hammond, Frank Carter, and Charlie Jolson from the game The Getaway.

Marco's Bistro and the Mafia

Marco’s Bistro, which is seen in cutscenes and only accessible through the use of a mod or by carefully jumping through Tommy’s wardrobe, contains a photograph of Frank Sinatra, as a reference to his Mafia ties. It also includes a newspaper article about the death of Bruno Hauptmann, a real life criminal. The newspaper in question is the Daily News, a real newspaper that heavily covered Hauptmann’s case. Finally, there is a Mafia picture there, as well.

This area has heavily contributed to the popular fan theories about the Mafia’s role in Vice City, especially when it comes to their possible ties to the Forelli Family.

Movie Parodies

The movie Bite, starring Candy Suxxx, is a parody of Jaws. Likewise, the movie Closer Encounters (also starring Candy Suxxx) is a parody of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Easter egg podium

Easter Eggs

Near the Vice City News building in Downtown Vice City, find the window you can jump through. Inside, you’ll find a literal Easter egg, a chocolate egg on a podium.

Shoot the Moon

Easter Eggs

At night, if you shoot the moon with a sniper rifle, it will shrink. Repeated shots will make it shrink further, until it eventually begins to grow large again.

Rockstar Games Logo

At Starfish Island, there is a pool shaped like the logo of Rockstar Games. Some planes have their tailfins in the shape of the logo as well, and the logo can be found on pictures and gravestones at Funeraria Romano. There is also a shop in Ocean Beach called Rockstar Video Games.

Moon Landing Conspiracy

The film studio includes a room where you can find a replica of the lunar lander, a reference to the conspiracy theory that the moon landing was faked.

Scarface References

The blood and chainsaw in Apartment 3C are references to the movie Scarface. This is far from the only Scarface reference, as Tommy’s story strongly parallels that of Tony Montana, the Vercetti Estate (Diaz’s Mansion) is very close to Tony Montana’s mansion, and both the game and the movie have similar shootouts at the end.

Raiders of the Lost Ark Plane

The Skimmer plane resembles the plane from the start of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, and is eventually mentioned to have been used in “some old indie movie.”
