Hidden Sign

Easter Eggs

It is possible to reach an inaccessible alley in which you’ll find a sign that says “You weren’t supposed to be able to get here you know.”

Programmer Towns

Easter Eggs

If you fly north out of the city, you’ll see town names displayed on your mini-map. These towns can’t actually be visited, and their names are variations on the names of programmers who worked on the game.

Vice City foreshadowing

Easter Eggs

One billboard reads “See you in Miami!” This was an early hint as to the setting of the next game in the series, Vice City.

Carcer City

Easter Eggs

The in-game radio will sometimes reference a place called Carcer City, which would be later used in the game Manhunt.

Driver references (Tanner)

Easter Eggs

The mission Two-Faced Tanner is a reference to the Driver series, whose protagonist is named Tanner. Asuka’s description of him as being “useless outside of his car” is a nod to the lack of on-foot abilities in Driver 2, and Tanner was given a female running animation in reference to criticisms of his running animation in Driver 2.

Badfellas

Easter Eggs

The film “Badfellas” is sometimes advertised, a reference to the movie Goodfellas.

"YMCA" worker

Easter Eggs

There is a construction worker NPC who will recite lyrics from the song “YMCA” by the Village People.

Zombie Elvis

Easter Eggs

You can find a newspaper that claims “Zombie Elvis” has been seen. This led to player myths that zombie Elvis could actually be found in the game, but it appears to be just an Easter egg.
