In the God of War official novel, it is confirmed that Atreus is 11 years old at the end of the God of War (2018). However, the Fimbulwinter lasts three years, so at the beginning of Ragnarok, Atreus is believed to be 14 years old, but just how old does that make his father?
God of War (2018) is a reboot of the earlier God of War 3 series. Many years after Kratos has defeated the Greek Gods, Kratos is introduced as the father of a son named Atreus. Atreus is the son of Faye the Giant, which means he’s half god, half-giant.

Atreus’ sheer ability to defend himself, and his willingness to challenge his father’s commands, indicate that he is no longer a young minor. Instead, he has matured into a young teenager who will join his father, Kratos, on an adventure to prevent Ragnarok.

As a young child, Atreus makes his first appearance in the rebooted God of War (2018) series. Unfortunately, there is no indication of when Atreus was born; all we know is that he is the son of Kratos and Faye and was born in Midgard.

The “God of War Lore and Legends” book has a timeline of events that were created by Atreus throughout his journey. Atreus’ starting point begins one year after the God of War events have been completed.
Atreus records that his mother gave birth to him thirteen years ago. However, this timeline was recorded a year after the God of War (2018), meaning that Atreus was 12 years old in the previous God of War (2018).
How Old Will Kratos Be In Ragnarok?
As legend suggests, Kratos has lived for centuries; this Ghost of a Spartan has defeated the Greek Mythological Gods and dwelled in the Midgard realm for an extensive period of time. It’s estimated that Krato is over 1064 years old at the start of Ragnarok; let’s take a look.
The director of the God of War series, Cory Barlog, was asked in an interview as to what is Kratos’ age? Cory replied that he wasn’t sticking to specific dates.
A true indication of Kratos’s age is given in the “God of War Lore and Legends” book, where his son Atreus, records a timeline of events that have taken place throughout the God of War.
There is a side note on the timeline of the “God of War Lore and Legends” book. Atreus asks his father, “why didn’t he realize his mother was a normal Midgard woman, if he had met her so long ago and she still looked so young and vibrant when he was born?”.
Krato’s reply was,” that when you have lived for centuries, talk to me about what a decade here or there feels like.” This confirms that Kratos has lived for centuries and doesn’t even consider the time.
God of War Timeline
Taking into account real-life events, the destruction of Sparta took place in 464 BC; God of War 3 is primarily centered around this time. The second significant date is the end of the Fimbulwinter, which is believed to have occurred in 535 AD.
Should God of War base Kratos’s age on real-life events, he will be over 1050 years old in God of War (2018). We have learned in the previous God of War series, that Kratos was a young Spartan general that served Aries.
Let’s not forget the ten years that Kratos served the Greek Gods to rid him of his nightmares; it’s, therefore, possible to believe that Kratos is over 1061 years old in God of War(2018).
The three-year Fimbulwinter ended at the start of the Ragnarök apocalypse. This adds three years onto Kratos’s age; it’s, therefore, possible that Kratos is, in fact, over 1064 years old, not 150 years as some would suggest.
