Best Builds in God of War: Ragnarok
One of the best parts of God of War Ragnarok is the ability to customize your armor to get the most out of it. In God of War Ragnarok, you can combine different items of armor together to create your own armor set. Each set has its own perks that come along with it. Let’s break down the best builds in GoW Ragnarok.
The Unbreakable
The Unbreakable build focuses mainly on defense. This build is perfect if you prefer a more defensive strategy. This armor dulls the impact of incoming attacks but also lessens your strikes. Every addition to this build adds to its defense stats. Making this armor one of the best for defense.
Build Equipment | Recommended item | Perks |
---|---|---|
Chest Armor | Steinbjorn Plackart | Bloodthirsty Retaliaship: Kratos restore health from his attacks |
Waist Armor | Steibjorn Waist Guard | Stunning Retaliation: increase the chance of inflicting stun damage. |
Wrist Armor | Steinbjorn Gauntlets | Stunning Retaliation: increase the chance of inflicting stun damage. |
Axe Attachment | Grip of Healing Harmony | Permafrost Lifesteal: When fully charged, axe hits restore health. |
Spear Handle | Lions Roar Sauroter | Stun Blast: Increase stun damage of the Gale Force Skill. |
Blades of Chaos Attachment | Pommels of Brutal Might | Seized Strength: Grants gift of strength after stun |
Shield | Rond of Restoration | Restoring Shield: With lower health, Kratos has the chance to build on his defense. |
The Undying
This build is great for restoring health. Every part of this build revolves around continuously restoring health. With the Cuirass of Raven Tear’s perk, you have a good chance of using the ‘healing mist skill’ on most of your attacks.
The grip of the Fallen Alchemist is another great perk that the wrist and waist armors provide. This perk gives you a burst of health when you use your heavy axe attack. With the perk of restoring Kratos’s health, this should help you stay in the fight longer.
Build Equipment | Recommended item | Perks |
---|---|---|
Chest Armor | Cuirass of Raven Tears | Healing Mist: Restore health on the attack. |
Waist Armor | Girdle of Raven Tears | Healing Efficacy: Increased healing from Gear |
Wrist Armor | Bracers of Raven Tears | Healing Efficacy: Increased healing from Gear |
Axe Attachment | Grip of the Fallen Alchemist | Serpents Health Burst: Health Burst with a hit with the serpent snare skill. |

Shield | Rond of Restoration | Restoring Shield: With lower health, Kratos has the chance to build on his defense. |
The Blight Bringer
The Blight bringer is a pretty formidable build. It makes use of Lunda’s Lost Cuirass, which poisons your enemies when you manage a successful attack. When an enemy is poisoned, it significantly reduces their strength, giving you the upper hand.
Your writing and waist armors also add to your strength overall. When paired with the Rond of Affliction attachment, your shield will cause any poisoned enemy to explode, inflicting high explosive damage.
Build Equipment | Recommended item | Perks |
---|---|---|
Chest Armor | Lunda’s Lost Cuirass | Vanir Poison: Deal bonus damage and poison enemies with parrying, blocking, and bare-handed attacks. |
Waist Armor | Loda’s Lost Belt | Prey Upon Poison: increase damage on poisoned foes. |
Wrist Armor | Lunda’s Lost Bracers | Prey Upon Poison: increase damage on poisoned foes. |
Blades of Chaos Attachment | Cursed Empress Handles | Power of the Empress: Increase strength and runic with any blade hit. |
Shield | Rond of Affliction | Strike of Affliction: causes explosive damage on poisoned enemies. |
The Unstoppable Force
The unstoppable force build didn’t get that name for anything. The Dragon Scaled Breastplate increases defense and strength whenever you manage a successful block or parry. You can also optimize your shield defensive abilities with the wrist and waist armor.
This armor is generally better when you are facing loads of enemies. You can take a decent hit and, with the increased strength, give one as well. You will get the most out of this build if you can optimize your parries and blocks.
Build Equipment | Recommended item | Perks |
---|---|---|
Chest Armor | Dragon Scaled Breastplate | Dragons Fury: Increase strength and defense with a successful block or parry. |
Waist Armor | Dragon scaled Girdle | Dragons Rebuke: Increases shield damage. |
Wrist Armor | Dragon Scaled Bracers | Dragons Rebuke: Increases shield damage. |
Axe Attachment | The Furious Maul | Slayers Strength: Increase the chance of increased strength with a kill. |
Spear Handle | Charging Assault Sauroter | Fearless Sprinter: Increase Stun on Hoplite and Phalanx Breaker skills. |
Blades of Chaos Attachment | Cursed Empress Handles | Power of the Empress: Increase strength and runic with any blade hit. |
Shield | Rond of Nine Realms | Riposte Realm Shift: temporarily slows down enemies when parrying. |
The Realm Shifter
The Realm Shifter is one of the best built-in Gods of War Ragnarok. This build is designed around the realm Shift aspect of GoW Ragnarok. Every part of this build adds towards the ability to realm shift. When you perform certain moves, time will temporarily slow down for your enemies.
With the wrist and waist armor perks, you can activate realm shift quite often by dodging incoming attacks at the last second. This requires some practice, but once you have got the perfected, Kratos will be unstoppable.
The main issue with this build is that you’ll need a whole lot of Hacksilver.
Realm Shift, paired with Surtr’s Scorched Cuirass, brings a whole different dynamic to this build. These two perks combined increase damage to enemies still in attack motion. With these skills, you will deal loads of damage.
Build Equipment | Recommended item | Perks |
---|---|---|
Chest Armor | Surtr’s Scorched Cuirass | Preemptive Strike: Adds bonus damage to interrupted attacks. |
Waist Armor | Belt of Radiance | Realm Shift: activate realm shift when evading last-second attacks. |
Wrist Armor | Gauntlets of Radiance | Realm Shift: activate realm shift when evading last-second attacks. |
Axe Attachment | Grip of Nine Realms | Momentous Shift: Activates realm shift during Glacial Permafrost. |
Blades of Chaos Attachment | Pommels of Nine Realms | Momentous Shift: Activates realm shift during Furious Immolation. |
Spear Handle | Hind of the Nine Realms | Momentous Shift: Activates realm shift during Violent Maelstorm. |
Shield | Rond of the Nine Realms | Riposte Realm Shift: chance of starting realm shift when parrying. |
