You might have seen the recent news that the Playstation 4 will not play your MP3 collection or any of your other media either (no DNLA server functionality). This initially caused quite an uproar with many pinging SCE president Shuhei Yoshida via Twitter to ask why Sony had seemingly dropped the ball on this one.
Fast forward a few days and Yoshida has said that MP3, music CD and DLNA server support will all “eventually” be added to the Playstation 4. He also said that Sony was “caught off guard” by the initial backlash, although how that was we can’t imagine, these are very basic features that we’re talking about!
We didn’t really think about MP3 or DLNA. We always thought that we’re going to do that eventually – we’ve been doing it with all the [Playstation] products. So it caught us off guard. People don’t really talk about these features but when we say we don’t have it some people get really mad and [say], ‘I cancelled the pre-order’.
It’s nice to know that the gaming community was able to extract such a quick response and policy turnaround from Sony – the key take-out from all this being that we should expect a future PS4 firmware update to enable these basic media playback features. Now we can go back to looking forward to the US launch of the PS4 in just a few days!

President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida has posted several very informative tidbits of Playstation 4 information to Twitter recently, covering everything from download speeds to HDMI capture and also next-generation game upgrade requirements.
First off, speaking about once you’ve successfully upgraded from the PS3 to the PS4 version of a game, Yoshida-san said that while you’re playing that (digital) PS4 version, the original PS3 disc will still need to be in your Playstation 4’s disc tray.
@yosp So for PS3-PS4 game upgrade will the PS3 disc need to be in the PS4 once or will it be every time when trying to play the PS4 version?

Next up was a question about the HDMI capture capabilities of the Playstation 4. Yoshida-san said that we won’t have them at launch but that the features be added later by a patch.
@yosp Will HDMI capture work on day 1 or is it a patch you guys will release after the ps4 launch?

Finally, someoneone complained that downloading the digital version of GTA V for their PS3 via the Playstation Network was extremely slow. Yoshida-san said that speeds would be improved once the Playstation 4 is released (and rightly so)! After all, Microsoft is talking about the cloud capabilities of the Xbox One pretty hard…

Over the past few days there’s been a bit of confusion as to whether you’ll be able to do a full install of disc games to your PS4’s HDD (obviously this doesn’t apply if you purchase the digital version!).
It all started with Shuhei Yoshida (prolific Twitterer and SCE Worldwide Studios President) saying “you cannot install a disk version onto HDD”. Many took this as meaning that if you purchase the disc version of a game, you won’t even be able to install it fully to the PS4 hard-drive.
Yoshida-san has cleared the whole thing up (again via Twitter) as follows however:
@LightningAnders yes
— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) August 30, 2013
So, the bottom line is that you can do a full install of a game’s files onto your PS4 hard-drive (for better performance), however the original game disc will always need to be present in the drive.
It will be interesting to see how many people decide to go “all digital” with their game purchases this generation, and take the convenience of not needing a disc versus the lack of ability to on-sell their games.

Like we’ve said before, tidbits of new information about the Playstation 4 continue to leak out primarily thanks to Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, of all people.
@izzuddinjawati yes

Yoshida-san is back on Twitter and responding to fan’s questions, with his latest tweets concerning the ability to turn on the PS4 using a PS Vita (yes, you can!) and how Sony has been, and continues to prepare for the launch of the Playstation 4 is November – with Yoshida-san admitting that nothing can be perfect.
@Golwar nothing is, and will be, perfect
— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) August 24, 2013
He’s right of course, but that doesn’t mean that Sony hasn’t been doing a great job with the Playstation 4. We think they’ve handled everything since the official announcement of the console back at E3 pretty well!

Are you curious how the PS Vita will work with the PS4 in remote play mode? Because if so, SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida is on the case, via Twitter, and recently posted a few comments to help us better understand how the two devices will interact.
First off, responding to a question about whether PS4 games that require a special input device (such as dance games) will work with the PS Vita in remote play mode, Yoshida said unfortunately they won’t, but seemingly all others will:
@TheHorselord games that require special input device like a dance game won't work, others will.
— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) August 18, 2013
Next he confirmed that there will be little lag (if any) between the two devices:
@RussTweetsTech Vita takes your input, receives and decodes video from PS4 very fast.
— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) August 18, 2013
Oh, and if you think that this new feature might be require a whole heap of new software for your Vita (and potentially a bigger memory card) don’t worry – that won’t be an issue! This is particularly good to know given how expensive the things are at the moment…
@Buscanator Remote Play does not require a large memory card.
— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) August 13, 2013
With rumors of a potential Playstation 4 / PS Vita bundle, is this doing anything to make you more inclined to purchase Vita along with your PS4 console?
