Wedbush’s Predictions for Console Sales – PS4 to Win

There is a new analysis out from Wedbush’s Equity Research Department, and this time the analysts have made some predictions about what future sales numbers will look like for the PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U.

They predict that during this year, the PS4 will sell 12 million units, the Xbox One will sell 9 million units, and the Wii U will sell 3 million units. Their view of the Wii U is pretty bleak, and they believe the PS4 will have a lead on the Xbox One due to its lower price. In fact, they also expect Nintendo to lose up to 80% of sales, as Wii users turn to the PS4 and Xbox One instead of the Wii U, and believe most third party publishers will abandon the Wii U.

The report also anticipates 15 million annual sales for the 3DS, with some of its potential consumer base taken away by smartphones and tablets. It did not give a sales prediction for the PS Vita, but predicted general declines of interest in handheld game systems.

Wedbush believes the video game software market in general will generate $12 billion in sales in 2014, $14 billion in 2015, and $16 in 2016.

By 2016, the analysts expect the PS4 to have sold 40 million units, the Xbox One to have sold 32 million units, and the Wii U to have sold 10 million units.

They don’t feel PlayStation Now will affect the market at all, which isn’t surprising considering the head analyst was Michael Pachter, who previously made his negative opinion of PlayStation Now known.

These numbers are interesting, but we suggest you keep in mind that they are predictions, not concrete facts. We aren’t sure about all of these numbers. If their specific analyses interest you, you can check out the full 174-page report here and let us know what you think.
