Playstation UI walkthrough video

by Cheats.co Staff - Leave a comment

If you’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of your PS4 today, or planning on trying to walk in and grab one off the shelf, then we suggest taking a look at this video walk-through of the Playstation 4 UI first.

It’s easily the most comprehensive and high quality footage we’ve seen to date and shows off all the functions you should know about – friends lists, the Playstation Store, and how to use the DVR (digital video recorder), Twitch, Facebook and other apps.

We think that the new Playstation UI looks extremely easy to use and very well-layed out (KISS – keep it simple, stupid!), and looks to be a major improvement on the current offering from the PS3. As with all things though, we won’t be able to say for sure until Cheats.co’s own PS4 unit arrives – hopefully soon!

Playstation 4 UI cheat sheet

November 12, 2013 by Cheats.co Staff - Leave a comment

Sony recently held a pre-launch event for the Playstation 4 in New York and finally unveiled the PS4 UI to the public, properly. A lot of new information has since come out and we’ve compiled a handy cheat/tip sheet that tells you all the cool stuff and new features you can expect from the Playstation 4 user interface. We also have a few images too. Enjoy!

  1. You can login to your PS4 using facial recognition (and providing you have the PS Eye camera of course!). You need to be holding a controller when doing so and then move it when the PS4 tells you to (lining it up with the screen).
  2. Trophies will have a “rarity” value assigned to them that is updated dynamically (types are common, rare, very rare, and ultra rare).
  3. You can use the motion sensors in the new DualShock 4 controller that comes with the PS4 to type on the on-screen keyboard.
  4. Messages can be sent to not only other PS4 users, but also PS3 and PS Vita users. Plus you can add up to 15 seconds of voice to any message to a PS4 user and attach screenshots.
  5. There’s no time limit on streaming your gameplay. You can broadcast indefinitely!
  6. When sharing content from your PS4 you can define groups of contacts that it should only be shared to (for example, a select group of Facebook friends).
  7. When you’re using the PSN Store and have purchased a digital game, before you download it the system will ask if you’d like to start playing single or multi player first (for instance) and then start downloading files based on priority. This gets you up and running in the game mode you want more quickly.
  8. Your PS4 will be able to both upload and download data, and also recharge your controllers via USB, while in standby mode.
  9. Party chat works for up to eight people, including Vita users.
  10. A nice shortcut to the last app you used on the system is to simply double-tap the PS button.

We think it’s looking pretty slick and should be a massive improvement over the current PS3 user interface. In fact let’s be honest – what wouldn’t!?

Evolution of the Xbox dashboard

Who remembers the blades on the Xbox 360, or even the original green Xbox dashboard? In case you can’t, here’s a cool little image that should jog your memory.

Yup, the blades were cool! Thanks to KillerByte2 of Reddit for the memories.

Xbox One dashboard & multitasking video leaked

September 8, 2013 by Cheats.co Staff - Leave a comment

One of the first leaks of a working “out in the wild” Xbox One console has come out with YouTube user Jackson Carter uploading the video you can see below.

In the two minute clip Carter focuses mainly on the Xbox One’s dashboard/user interface and also gives us a quick rundown through the hardware (looks pretty legit to us).

As you can see, the Xbox One dashboard has been more than just influenced by the Windows 8 “Metro” tile layout and we also get a peek at the console’s multitasking capabilities via a beta version of Ryse and the new Kinect 2.0 (the leaker doesn’t have access to any other games right now).

With the original video being pulled from YouTube (and the one above uploaded in it’s place) you’d have to think this means it must be the real deal…

New Xbox One IU images released

August 20, 2013 by Cheats.co Staff - 1 Comment

We hope you’re a fan of the new-ish Windows 8 UI (Metro) because as you’ll see from these brand new Xbox One user interface screenshots, the look is consistent.

Microsoft released the images following their Gamescom press conference and in them you can see how multitasking will work (playing Forza and changing your music) as well as game invite/update notifications (while watching a movie) and other features.

What do you think of the look?

PS4 user interface leaked via test kit video

August 7, 2013 by Cheats.co Staff - 2 Comments

The user interface, more commonly known as a dashboard these days, for the Playstation 4 has not yet been revealed. However this leaked clip should give us some idea of what it could look like when Sony finally decide to do the big unveiling.

The footage comes courtesy of a very early PS4 testing kit (hence the crash which actually takes us back to the dashboard, enabling us to see it, in the first place).

We thought that the dashboard sounds were pretty much perfect (atmospheric, if you will) although there will likely be an option to turn them off if you want, just like with the PS3. The UI also looked very quick which will make a nice change from what we currently have with the Playstation 3.

What makes a good dashboard in your eyes?

Why Xbox One Kinect will be awesome

July 26, 2013 by Cheats.co Staff - 5 Comments

Wanna know what one of the greatest things about Xbox One is? It’s the Kinect 2.0. If you already believe that, keep reading. If you need convincing, keep reading anyway because this article will tell you about some of the things you should be excited about.

Kinect for Xbox One offers many things you may not have even thought possible and it can be used in all sorts of ways in conjunction with the console – whether it be in-game, when you’re simply browsing the UI or otherwise.

  • You can control and navigate the user interface with hand gestures. This including flipping, grabbing, dragging and pushing.
  • You can control and navigate the user interface with voice commands. Phrases like “Xbox on, “Go home”, “Snap Skype”, “Watch TV” and “Play game” are some of the commands available. The list is extensive though and will only grow with time.
  • Once you’ve setup your account for the first time, the Kinect will remember your face and link it with your Xbox Live account. It will automatically sign you in when you pick up a controller and load your particular settings, games, etc.
  • Kinect will also recognize which controller you have and which player you are (ie player one or player two). There are no LED rings required to identify you as a player. Kinect recognizes you, your controller and where you are in the room at all times (ie you can move around).

For now, most developers are using Kinect to introduce subtle new ways to control what is happening in Xbox One games. Some examples are as follows:

  • Ryse: you can use voice commands to control entire legions of soldiers.
  • Dead Rising 3: zombies will be able to hear you, and you can also point at an area and use voice commands to tell survivors what to do (cool!).
  • Killer Instinct: when you grab a controller your button assignments are automatically loaded. Give the controller to your friend and his are automatically loaded. It’s that easy.

At E3 there was a first person shooter called “Reflex” that was made specially in-house to show how the Kinect 2.0 can be utilized. Some examples are:

  • You’re about to get over-run by enemies so you raise your controller up to chest level and it raises your shield in game. This enables you to regather and then fight back.
  • Suddenly invisible enemies start attacking you. Your helmet has x-ray vision but how do you activate it? Touch your temple of course…
  • Then objects start being thrown at you, how do you dodge them? You move! So lean left or right and you will strafe, dodge or roll accordingly (I do this already without Kinect!).
  • A boss comes along and your regular weapon isn’t doing any damage. So simply raise your finger, point at him and say “fire missiles”. Guess what happens next…

The thing is, examples like those above are only going to become more numerous, more immersive and better over time as game developers learn what the Kinect 2.0 is capable of and how they can make better use of it in games. If some of the scenarios above have you excited now, imagine what’s going to be coming out a year or so after the Xbox One has been released!

New PS4 system and UI images

July 23, 2013 by Cheats.co Staff - 4 Comments

Sony has just released some new images showing off the Playstation 4 system as well as the user interface.

As you can see, the PS4 UI features much better multitasking support that its predecessor, the Playstation 3, and there will also be a new mobile app that lets you view game details, check out your profile and those of your friends, view Trophies and of course message people (Android app pics shown).

One thing we noticed in the “PS4 package” image is the tablet, specifically the inclusion of the word “Start” below the Knack game image. Does this mean gameplay can be streamed to tablets (and presumably controlled with the DualShock 4)?

Otherwise it’s nice to see more of the direction Sony are taking with the PS4 UI… looks good to us!
