Assassin’s Creed Unity: Size, Parkour, and More

June 17, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Fans of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and the rest of the series are probably eager to learn more about Assassin’s Creed Unity, which is coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A lot of good gameplay information came out of E3, and new details keep on coming.

First of all, if you felt Black Flag didn’t have enough land–you did spent a lot of time on the water, after all–you’ll be pleased to know that Unity’s Paris was confirmed to be bigger than all the land in Black Flag. (You’ll get to visit a few areas outside of Paris, as well.)

You’ll have a large city to explore, and as for the way you explore it, Ubisoft had some comments to make about that, as well. The series’ parkour system has been redone for Unity to give movement a smoother feel. According to Game Designer Max Spielberg, “you no longer have to drop down from climbing a wall to an object to continue running. You can, from your climb, perform a transition into a direct run, or swing, or any move possible in the game.”

The new parkour movement will involve two vertical controls and one horizontal control, and you’ll learn special parkour moves as you play through the game.

Now, when we talk about playing the game, you might be thinking about playing with your friends, since co-op was revealed at E3. However, it turns out that your friends won’t be able to join you during most story missions. You can explore the open world and complete certain missions together, but when it comes to the main story, you’ll be on your own.

Even with co-op, therefore, Assassin’s Creed Unity is still focused on story, and on its new main character, Arno Dorian. If you’d like to learn more about Arno, Ubisoft released a new trailer all about him.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to taking control of Arno and exploring Paris?

LittleBigPlanet 3 Announced at E3

June 14, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

LittleBigPlanet 3

We weren’t expecting to see the return of Sony’s adorable puzzle platformer series, LittleBigPlanet, at E3, especially because series developer Media Molecule said it wouldn’t be showing anything this year. So we were quite surprised when Sony’s press conference introduced us to LittleBigPlanet 3 and several new characters.

The third installment will include not only Sackboy, but OddSock, Swoop, and Toggle. These three new characters have different abilities, which should open up new gameplay options, increase the depth and complexity of puzzles, and make co-op crazier than ever. It promises other new features as well, and we can’t wait to see them all.

So what was up with Media Molecule’s statement? Simple. LittleBigPlanet is being developed by Sumo Digital.

The game is supposed to release for the PS4 and PS3 this November. Are you going to pick it up?

CD Projekt RED Says 100 Hours on Witcher 3 is a Speedrun

by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Witcher 3 screenshot 6

We’ve seen enough of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to call it a beautiful game, and we’ve heard its world is huge. While we got to see a new trailer just before E3, Wild Hunt was also featured at Microsoft’s E3 press conference with a new gameplay video.

The same demo shown here was played through differently in a later Twitch stream, as well, so you may have seen a different version. Regardless of which version you watch, you might be wondering how long you’ll get to immerse yourself in the Witcher’s world. Well, according to CD Projekt RED, you’ll have 100 hours worth of gameplay…if you play really fast.

Senior Level Designer Peter Gelencser described 100 hours as a “speedrun.” We aren’t sure if he means that in the traditional sense of a speedrun, where you complete only the required tasks and attempt to get through the game as fast as possible, or if he’s imagining someone completing all the side content and just doing it very quickly. Either way, The Witcher 3 will have a lot of content.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt looks like it will be a stand-out RPG. Are you satisfied with what you’ve seen? What questions and concerns do you still have?

Friends Without the Game Can Join Far Cry 4 Multiplayer

by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Far Cry 4 screenshot

Far Cry 4 is another one of the many games we got to learn more about at E3. It was featured at both Ubisoft and Sony’s press conferences, which provided a hearty look at the game. The first trailer, shown by Ubisoft, introduced us to Pagan Min, the dictator who serves as Far Cry 4’s villain.

Along with that, which gives a pretty good idea of what this guy is like, Ubisoft also revealed some gameplay details. One of the most interesting is that Far Cry 4 has a co-op mode that’s even accessible to players who don’t have the game, on the PS3/PS4. If you have Far Cry 4 and are a PlayStation Plus member, you’ll receive get ten “Keys to Kryat.” You can give these keys to friends without the game to let them download an app that will let them join you in co-op mode, although their co-op time will be limited. If they then buy Far Cry 4, they can transfer over anything earned from co-op to the full game.

We aren’t sure what the limitations for the invited player will be, and we don’t know if there will be any way to obtain keys for non-PS+ subscribers. Nevertheless, this is a cool idea and a great way to get more players interested in the game.

Now, why not take a look at the gameplay and co-op shown off later at E3?

Far Cry 4 adds a lot of new elements to the series besides co-op. For example, you can throw bait, ride elephants, and perform a melee kick attack. How does it look? Are you planning to pick it up for your Xbox One or PS4 (or Xbox 360/PS3/PC) when it launches on November 18?

Evolve Will Launch With 12 Hunters, 3 Monsters

June 13, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Evolve screenshot 2

Evolve is one of the many games coming out this October, and for multiplayer fans, it might be one of the most interesting. With 4-versus-1 combat, four players get to take control of Hunters while a fifth controls a gigantic monster.

Back when the second four Hunters were revealed, we wondered how many there would be in total. Well, out of E3 we learned that there will be 12 Hunters for you to play as when the game launches. No specifics were given about the remaining four, but we assume that is one more for each class.

Three monster options will be available at launch. A fourth will come as a part of Evolve’s DLC, but although the DLC is a preorder bonus, it won’t be ready for the game’s release. Players who preorder the game will simply be able to get the DLC for free when it comes out. That’s a nice way to keep game content as a preorder bonus without having day-1 DLC.

Thanks to IGN, you can check out a 14-minute gameplay demo from E3.

Evolve will release on October 21 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. (Despite the system being built for this sort of 4-on-1 multiplayer, it isn’t planned for the Wii U.) What do you think? Are you looking forward to trying this out with your friends?

Sunset Overdrive Shakes Things Up at E3

by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Sunset Overdrive screenshot

Sunset Overdrive is nothing if not crazy, and despite being arguably a game about the zombie apocalypse (that is, an Awesomepocalypse brought on by evil fizzy drinks), it brings a hefty dose of color and fun to the Xbox One. If you’ve seen anything about it, you’ve probably guessed it’s somewhat self-aware, and nothing makes that clearer than the bait-and-switch of its E3 trailer.

We didn’t come out of E3 with a lot of new information about Sunset Overdrive, but fans got to see plenty of its wacky style. SunsetTV even uploaded a special video that details the game’s presence at E3.

Yes, you’ll be killing lots of zombie-like enemies in Sunset Overdrive, but it’s lighthearted and focuses on fun. You’ll be able to play it with you friends, as it supports up to 8-player co-op. That will definitely ratchet up the insanity another notch.

(But if you don’t have 7 interested friends, don’t worry, it still should be pretty insane.)

Sunset Overdrive gif

If you’d like to see more colorful chaos to make up your mind about Sunset Overdrive, check out this video, courtesy of GameSpot, of the stage demo shown later on at E3.

Sunset Overdrive will be released on October 28. We’re not sure why October is such a popular month for game releases this year, but we hope you’ve either prioritized or set aside a lot of money. Is Sunset Overdrive on your list of games to get?

New The Order: 1886 Footage from E3

by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

The Order 1886 banner

The Order: 1886 was one of the many PS4 games featured at E3, and it’s caused a wave of controversy amongst fans. Some think it’s going to be the next best thing, an undeniable reason to want a PS4, while others criticize its gameplay, use of quick-time events, and apparent linearity. According to Ready at Dawn, some parts will be linear while others will be “quite the opposite.”

If you remember last year’s E3 trailer, when the game was first revealed, the supernatural elements were hinted at in the form of inhuman enemies hidden by the fog. These Half-Breeds are a major threat in the world of The Order, and the new trailer finally gives us a good look at the Lycans.

You can learn even more about the game from its developers, while watching game footage, by checking out the gameplay Ready at Dawn streamed on Twitch during E3.

The Order: 1886 will be released on February 20, 2015. If you preorder, you’ll receive the Knight’s Arsenal DLC, which includes two alternate costumes and weapons for Galahad. If you want more than just the regular edition, you have your choice of a Collector’s Edition and a Premium Edition.

The Collector’s Edition ($79.99) includes:

  • The Order: 1886 game
  • Steelbook
  • Coat of Arms stickers
  • 7-inch “Galahad Under Fire” statue
  • Knight’s Arsenal DLC (the preorder bonus)
  • Digital soundtrack
  • Digital behind-the-scenes footage

The Order 1886 CE

The Premium Edition ($149.99), on the other hand, includes:

  • The Order: 1886 game
  • Steelbook
  • Official art book with a hidden compartment
  • Blackwater vial on a chain
  • Coat of Arms stickers
  • 13-inch “The Endless Duel” statue
  • Collector’s box
  • Knight’s Arsenal DLC (the preorder bonus)
  • Digital soundtrack
  • Digital behind-the-scenes footage

The Order 1886 PE

Where do you fall in the debate over The Order? Are you planning to play it or pass on this one?

Bayonetta 2 on Wii U Includes First Game

June 12, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Bayonetta 2

It was pretty big news back when Bayonetta 2 was first announced as a Wii U exclusive, since the first game was for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Nintendo made Bayonetta 2 possible, and thus it became an exclusive. But what we weren’t expecting from this year’s E3 trailer was the announcement that Bayonetta 2 will include the original Bayonetta.

It will be released on disc as the Bayonetta Complete Collection, which will also include special Nintendo costumes. This is a great opportunity for Wii U owners who didn’t get to play the first game, especially since it didn’t originally release on a Nintendo console.

More Bayonetta 2 gameplay has been shown at E3, and we’ve gotten to see special transformations and even a mech. To sample some of this beautiful game, check out the footage below, provided by Gamersyde.

What do you think? Planning to check it out when it releases in October 2014?

Smash Bros. 4 Introduces Miis and More

June 11, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Smash Bros Palutena

Super Smash Bros. 4 has several new characters and features to ensure your Smash Bros. experience on the Wii U is unlike any previous one. One of the biggest announcements, which should calm a lot of fan requests, is the addition of Miis. Of course, since this is Nintendo, they couldn’t just say you can now fight with your Mii in Smash Bros. Instead, they revealed it with a very interesting battle.

We aren’t sure how deep the customization of Miis goes, but they have three different classes and a variety of outfits. We hope you can make your Mii look like anyone you want, within reason, of course. And the custom movesets, which will only be useable against friends and in local play, add another level of depth to this game. We can’t wait to try it out.

The next characters revealed for Smash Bros. 4 were Lady Palutena and Pac-Man. Kid Icarus fans are delighted to see Palutena in the game, while the reaction to Pac-Man has varied between joy and all-out hate.

Smash Bros pac-man

Smash Bros. 4 will also make use of NFC figurines called Amiibos, similar to those used for Skylanders. These special Figure Players can be brought into a match by touching the figure to the GamePad. They level up as you use them, adapt their gameplay based on their opponents’ behaviors, and store their data in the Amiibo figure, so this should definitely add an interesting twist.

Many fans are excited about this game, and there are still more unannounced characters to look forward to. Who are you hoping to see in the roster?

Mortal Kombat X Promises Brutal Gameplay

by Samantha Lienhard - 1 Comment

Mortal Kombat X screenshot

There’s been plenty of excitement for Mortal Kombat X ever since it was announced. After the brief teaser shown in the announcement, fans were eager to see more, and the first gameplay trailer was shown at E3. So far, the game looks pretty brutal–which is exactly what we want from a Mortal Kombat title.

So far, there are six characters available. Sub-Zero and Scorpion are returning characters, but the other four are new: Cassie Cage, Kotal Kahn, Ferra, and D’vorah. As two of those names might suggest, Mortal Kombat X is set quite a ways after the previous game, 25 years.

Since this build is being shown at E3, you can check out even more gameplay and learn more about Mortal Kombat X straight from Ed Boon.

Finally, we’ve got a few screenshots to share with you, as well.
