Titanfall Sequel Confirmed for Xbox One, PS4, and PC

titanfall

Just under a year ago, rumors claimed a Titanfall 2 was planned and that it wouldn’t be Microsoft-exclusive as the original had been. Now, those rumors have finally been proven true. Respawn’s CEO, Vince Zampella, has told IGN that 2014’s multiplayer shooter is getting a sequel, although it doesn’t have a set title yet.

The original Titanfall’s exclusivity was a business decision, and one which won’t be true of the sequel. The next Titanfall game will be made for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

According to Zampella, the game will include more lore, although whether or not it will remain multiplayer-only remains undecided. Respawn may take a different approach to DLC, as map packs “split the community and it makes it harder for matchmaking.”

That, along with the multiple platforms, is already making the second Titanfall game appeal to more players. However, many fans are still hoping for a genuine single-player mode. What would you like to see in Titanfall 2?

If you don’t have the Season Pass, Expedition will cost $9.99. We aren’t sure what the release date is yet, however. We’ll keep you updated.

Yes, “New Titanfall Experiences” Are Planned

May 7, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

During EA’s earnings call yesterday, the company revealed several pieces of information about games currently under development. What we missed, however, was their other announcement: that EA and Respawn have made a new Titanfall deal.

Now, no one actually said they’re working on a sequel to Titanfall. In fact, Respawn’s Vince Zampella confirmed the announcement with the exact same wording used by EA, that “new Titanfall experiences” are coming.

The specific wording makes us wary of announcing this as Titanfall 2 confirmation, but we’d consider this to be a pretty strong indication of such a game, especially since we were expecting one anyway after the success of Titanfall. Whatever it is, it’s momentous enough to warrant a new deal, after all. Is it a new game? Will it be an Xbox One exclusive? Will it appear on the PS4? If this is a game already under development, is it one of the titles EA plans to announce at E3? Let the rumors and speculation commence!

March NPD Report Shows Titanfall and PS4 in the Lead

April 17, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

NPD Logo

It’s that time again, when the NPD Group releases the official sales report for the previous month. It feels almost contradictory to say the Xbox One-exclusive Titanfall and the PS4 were both in the lead in March, but that’s the way it turned out. The PS4 led the console sales, which isn’t surprising in light of the news that it crossed 7 million sales, even though Titanfall was the top-selling game.

The top ten best-selling games (new, physical copies only) for March were:

  1. Titanfall
  2. Infamous: Second Son
  3. South Park: The Stick of Truth
  4. Call of Duty: Ghosts
  5. Dark Souls II
  6. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
  7. NBA 2K14
  8. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster
  9. The LEGO Movie Videogame
  10. Minecraft

The sales data for Titanfall and Infamous: Second Son didn’t include their respective console bundles. We assume those were counted among the hardware sales instead.

Overall, hardware sales were up 78% from last March, although software sales were down 28%. It’s definitely been a good season for the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as for some of their most prominent games.

First Titanfall DLC Pack Coming in May

April 13, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

titanfall

We’ve got good news for all you Titanfall players! The first DLC pack is on its way. Respawn revealed new details about it at PAX East, including its name: Titanfall Expedition.

Expedition will contain three new maps, set after the main game, although there is no new campaign for the DLC. The three maps are called Swampland, Runoff, and Wargames. Swampland features trees, zipvines, and what appear to be ancient alien ruins, Runoff features water and pipes, and Wargames is (as the name would suggest) similar to the training simulator you used at the start of Titanfall.

Some free DLC is also on its way. You’ll be able to play a new mode called Wingman LTS, which is similar to Last Titan Standing except with four players (2 against 2), and get new Burn Cards. Respawn also plans to try out new modes and implement the most popular ones.

Titanfall Expedition is coming in May, but we aren’t sure if the free DLC is also coming in May or not, as it’s a separate project. Either way, there’s plenty of new Titanfall content on its way.

Respawn revealed some other details at PAX East, too. Did you know Titanfall was almost a single player game? One prototype was even a single player stealth game, which is pretty far from the final product. If you pick up the Final Hours of Titanfall app, you’ll even be able to see some of the single player footage.

What additions would you like to see in Titanfall’s future?

Titanfall and Forza Xbox One Bundle Dropped to $460 in US

April 12, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Xbox One Titanfall Forza

If you’re a US gamer who caught our story yesterday about the deals on the Xbox One bundle in the UK, and you wished you could find such a deal, you’re in luck.

Fry’s is selling the Xbox One bundled with Titanfall and Forza 5 for just $459.99, a full $100 off its regular price. If you’re interested in those games and haven’t picked up an Xbox One yet, it probably won’t get any better than this (although we can’t make any promises).

At this point, we’re surprised Microsoft hasn’t announced an official price cut. As it is, we’ll keep our eyes open for more discounts at other retailers.

Buy an Xbox One Titanfall Bundle for as Low as £340

April 11, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

Xbox One Titanfall

If you’re a UK gamer thinking about picking up the Xbox One, this might be your chance. The Titanfall bundle, which was already a good deal, was discounted yesterday to £349 at ASDA Direct. Amazon UK quickly followed with the same deal. But if you thought it couldn’t get any better than that, you would have been in for a surprise. Today, Xtra-Vision and HMV both released a promotional code (XVXBOX) that drops the price even lower, to £339.99.

Xtra-Vision and HMV have both sold out of the Titanfall bundle, but with any luck, they’ll get more in stock soon.

This is really kind of crazy, but great news for anyone who has hesitated over the Xbox One because of its price. The price was one of the sticking points for a lot of people, and the more it’s discounted, the more appealing it looks. Still, we feel a little bad for customers who bought it at its full price.

If you don’t have an Xbox One, does this deal convince you?

New Titanfall Patch: Private Match Beta, Changes, and Fixes

April 10, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

titanfall

A new update came out for Titanfall today, and it brought bug fixes, slight changes, and a public beta test for a new feature.

You can now try out the Private Match mode with your friends, with 2-12 players (1-6 per team). The Private Match beta will not give you XP, count toward your challenges, or unlock achievements, although you’ll be able to see what you would have gotten if it had been a regular match. As this is still a beta, expect new changes and features to be implemented after it’s been tested for a while.

With the patch, your party members will now be color-coded green, and your Auto-Pilot will be color-coded gold. This is meant to help you distinguish them from other allies. Once you finish the two campaigns, “Play Multiplayer” will now be the first option on the menu. You will also be able to look in the menu to see what version of the game you have, in case you aren’t sure if you have the latest update or not.

You can also go to the menu and press the left trigger to access the Xbox One’s Party app.

Some additional changes have been made to balance the game more. The “Gooser” challenge now only requires you to kill 5 ejecting pilots, rather than 50. The magazine capacity of the 40mm weapon has been reduced. The normal magazine now holds 12 rounds, and the extended magazine holds 16. The magazine capacity of the Quad Rocket has been changed to 5 rounds in a normal magazine, and 6 in an extended magazine, and the capacity of its Rapid Fire magazine has been raised to 18. The Quad Rocket is also more effective against Titan shields now. Another item to receive an upgrade is the Amped Kraber Burn Card, which will deal significantly more damage to Titans than it did before.

The scoring system for Hardpoint Domination and Capture the Flag have also been adjusted.

Finally, the patch has fixed a lot of bugs across all systems.

To see the full details, take a look at the official patch notes, which also name a few changes coming in a future update.

The Power of the Cloud and How It Helps Titanfall

April 4, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

xbox-one-logo-bg

One of the most controversial topics in the gaming community right now is the Xbox One’s use of cloud computing, so we really hope you don’t start arguments in the comments just because we mentioned the notorious cloud. Some people feel the cloud will make the Xbox One more powerful than anyone expected. On the other end of the spectrum, some people don’t believe the cloud exists at all, and think it’s just a word being tossed around by Microsoft with nothing behind it.

Time will tell, but yesterday at Build 2014, Microsoft held a demonstration in which two versions of a video were shown: one on a high-powered PC, and the other using the cloud. The cloud held onto a frame rate of 32 FPS, even when the PC dropped to 2 FPS. Check out the comparison for yourself.

Now, one of the big concerns with cloud gaming is that you have to have a strong Internet connection for it to work, but according to Xbox Partner Development Lead Frank Savage, it might not be as big a deal as you think. He described a project that included 480,000 asteroids. The cloud gave data to the console to allow it to keep the asteroid simulation accurate. He said that if you lost your Internet connection, it would take about two hours without the Internet for the asteroids to get significantly out of orbit. Of course, the reason the asteroid simulation works that way is because the asteroids move slowly.

Savage also discussed how Titanfall makes use of the cloud. The world of Titanfall is always running on the cloud, though to be honest, we still aren’t entirely sure what that means.

It should be interesting to see where Microsoft goes with this. The new Xbox leader, Phil Spencer, certainly understands players’ doubt about the cloud, as he promised on Twitter that further demonstrations will be coming. He also hinted that the footage of the building being destroyed is more than just a demonstration video.

What do you think about the cloud?

New Modes Coming to Titanfall for Free

March 25, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

titanfall-screen

A few days ago, Respawn’s Vince Zampella tweeted a message saying that new game modes would eventually come to Titanfall. This caused both excitement and consternation among fans. Excitement because, well, new Titanfall modes! Some players were concerned, though, that the new modes would be a part of paid DLC, which would result in only part of the community playing them.

Well, there’s no need to worry about that. Today, Zampella clarified that the additional modes will be free.

He also announced that there will be Double XP weekends and that the first DLC is still being worked on.

New modes, Double XP, and DLC content–which are you looking forward to the most?
