Uncharted 4 Will Include Context-Based Dialogue

April 18, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

While many eyes are on Naughty Dog for news of The Last of Us Remastered, many more fans are waiting for details about the mysterious Uncharted title in development. We know almost nothing about it, save that it will be a PS4 exclusive.

Naughty Dog’s audio team recently took some time in an interview to explain how the dialogue system in The Last of Us will affect Uncharted 4.

Both The Last of Us and the Uncharted games are narrative-driven, and that means the dialogue is an integral part of the experience.

“A lot of the exposition of that story happens in the dialogue. This creates nightmares for us, because game designers can create situations where they’re not thinking about dialogue, and yet dialogue is very tricky to create. If you and I are sitting across from each other and talking, the projection of my voice will be completely different than if I’m 8 feet away.”

With The Last of Us, the audio team took steps to ensure sound worked properly, and that characters’ voices wouldn’t be cut off because they walked around the corner. Contextual dialogue was another point they focused on, to make sure the characters’ AI didn’t break the atmosphere of realism and fall into the uncanny valley as a result.

“We shipped this game with close to 70,000 of dialogue, which is huge amount for a non-RPG game this size. We also built a context awareness system so that enemies can call out your location when you’re fighting. In order for that to work, you have to record every single object and location that are in the different environments. ‘He’s by the van!’ or ‘She’s by the bar!’ or ‘She’s across the street!’.”

Naughty Dog took great strides with The Last of Us, and “the next Uncharted will benefit heavily from this.”

Meanwhile, a supposed insider promises we’ll get to see more about Uncharted 4 at E3. We certainly hope this rumor proves to be true.

What are your hopes for the next Uncharted game?

The Last of Us Remastered

Of all the gaming news over the past few weeks, the announcement of The Last of Us: Remastered might have caused the biggest stir. Excitement, controversy, and more surrounds this title, and everyone has an opinion on whether this is a must-buy or one to pass.

Well, for those of you thinking about playing Naughty Dog’s remastered survival title on the PS4, you’d probably like to know when it’s coming out. There hasn’t been an official release date announcement, but earlier today, GameFly listed it for June 20. (The listing has since been altered to give a generic placeholder date.)

Target still lists it for June 20.

With just two listings and no official word, this is still very much a rumor. If it’s true, though, we’ll probably find out soon. We’ll keep you updated.

The Last of Us Remastered Confirmed for PS4

April 9, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

It looks like PlayStation Turkey Vice President Sercan Sülün was right after all–The Last of Us IS coming to the PS4 this summer, as The Last of Us Remastered.

This morning, an unexpected sight met the eyes of players who visited the PlayStation Store’s website. The Day 1 Digital Edition of The Last of Us Remaster was boldly displayed, despite no official announcement that it even existed. At the time, the link didn’t work, suggesting the ad wasn’t supposed to be there yet.

The Last of Us Remastered leak

It’s not every day Sony’s own store leaks a major announcement.

A few hours later, SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida officially confirmed it.

The Last of Us Remastered will include the main game, the Left Behind DLC, the Abandoned Territories map pack, the new Reclaimed Territories map pack, and a director’s commentary featuring Creative Director and Writer Neil Druckmann, voice actor Troy Baker, and voice actor Ashley Johnson. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson voice Joel and Ellie, respectively.

Sony Denies The Last of Us PS4 Announcement

March 29, 2014 by Samantha Lienhard - Leave a comment

A few days ago, we told you about the Vice President of PlayStation Turkey’s statement that The Last of Us would be coming to the PS4 this summer. Well, of course we weren’t the only ones to report the story, and Polygon went a step further and asked Sony for an official statement on the matter.

Sony replied, “At no time have we announced that The Last of Us is coming to PS4 and therefore, have nothing to say on the subject.”

While that isn’t the same as saying it’s not coming to the PS4, it at least clarifies that it wasn’t a planned announcement. It could be a mistake, or it could just be information they aren’t ready to share yet.

In the meantime, Spanish retailer XtraLife has made The Last of Us Complete Edition for PS4 available for preorders, with a release date of June 19. Unlike a lot of these incidents where an unannounced game appears on a retailer’s site, this listing is still there, and the release date matches up with the “summer” statement.

We’ll keep waiting for an official announcement. In the meantime, all we can say is that these are just rumors.

The Last of Us is Going to be a Movie

March 9, 2014 by Cheats.co Staff - Leave a comment

Fans of Naughty Dog’s highly-acclaimed game The Last of Us will either rejoice at this news or hide in fear, depending on your expectations for this project—a movie based on the game.

Naughty Dog, Sony, and Screen Gems—the company behind the production of Resident Evil: Afterlife—just signed an agreement. Neil Druckmann, the creative director for The Last of Us, will be writing the script, and he’ll also oversee the process alongside Naught Dog presidents Evan Wells and Cristophe Balestra, and game director Bruce Straley.

Ghost House Productions will also be involved.

Video game movies are notoriously bad, but at least this one has some of Naughty Dog’s core people involved with it. With Druckmann in charge of the writing, maybe this is one that can escape the stigma of video game movies. We certainly hope so.

While we wait for more information, tell us who you would cast in a film of The Last of Us if it were your choice.
