Twenty years ago today, Sony released the PlayStation for the first time. Now, the company has decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its original console with a special, limited edition PlayStation 4. This PS4 is gray to resemble the PlayStation, and it has a special 20th Anniversary label on it. Check it out with this unboxing video.
Like what you see? If so, tune in to PlayStation Experience, which will be streamed on Saturday, December 6 at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET. Pre-order details for the United States and Canada will be revealed there. Only 12,300 20th Anniversary PS4 consoles will be released worldwide, so you’ll have to act fast to secure your order.
If you’d rather remember the days of the original PlayStation without buying a limited edition console, PlayStation Europe announced special 20th Anniversary themes for the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. The North American release of these themes is expected to follow.

Of particular interest to fans is the theme that gives the console the startup sound used by the original PlayStation. In case you’ve forgotten that iconic sound, here it is on a player’s PS4.
It’s hard to believe the PlayStation brand has been around for 20 years. What are your favorite memories of the original PlayStation? Are you interested in the anniversary themes or even the limited edition console? Let us know in the comments.Tags: playstation, playstation experience, ps4

As promised back in April, Sony has reopened the doors of PlayStation Blog Share, a place for users to share their own ideas about the PlayStation brand. From new features you’d like to see implemented to games you really want on Sony’s systems, all you had to do was present your ideas. Users voted on ideas they agreed with, and the most popular ones had a chance of success.
The original PlayStation Blog Share became inactive and was more or less forgotten, but now it’s back with a focus on the PS4 and PS Vita. Take a look.
It looks pretty similar in setup and functionality to the original. Once you sign in, you can submit an idea (although you’re capped at one per week), upvote or downvote existing ideas, comment, and share ideas through social media. In addition to the ideas that have been submitted by users, there is also an “Ideas in Action” to see which ideas are becoming a reality.
So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and share your ideas!Tags: feedback, playstation, ps blog, ps4

We recently told you about Microsoft’s plans to expand the effects of its reputation system, but could a similar system be on its way to PlayStation consoles?
An image has surfaced on VGX showing a survey asking which features you would like to see added to PlayStation services. These include a reputation system, cross-platform chat (so PS4 players could chat to PS3 players and PS Vita players, for example), and the ability to change your username, among others.
However, it’s not entirely clear which players will receive this survey or where this one came from, and there are some concerns that it could be fake. For the time being, consider it a rumor that Sony is even considering these features.Tags: playstation, rumors, sony

GDC begins next week and Sony is holding a special panel on March 18 with SCEA R&D Senior Director Richard Marks, SCEA R&D Senior Software Engineer Anton Mikhailov, and SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida all featured. The panel is called “Driving the Future of Innovation,” and it will begin at 5:45 PM PT.
It is widely rumored that Sony will announce their VR headset at this panel.
According to developers who spoke with Edge, this technology is superior to that of the Oculus Rift, the current VR leader. They believe Sony will display some sort of VR software at the panel, whether it’s a game or just a tech demo.
So far, the Oculus Rift technology has suffered from some setbacks, with one of the major ones being the motion sickness many players experience when they use the technology. Can Sony overcome that? Give us your thoughts and predictions, and we’ll keep you updated.Tags: gdc, playstation, sony, vr

Now that Titanfall’s beta is out on the PC, it comes as no surprise to us that players are digging through its code to see what they can find. As we reported a couple of days ago, they already found information about the game itself—but what we have for you today is a little more intriguing.
The code for the beta includes lines that contain “ps3” and “ps40,” although that second one could be an abbreviation for Pixel Shader 4.0, especially since it is found in lines about shaders. The “ps3” line, however, follows the same pattern for lines about “360” and “pc,” which suggests Titanfall wasn’t always a Microsoft-exclusive project.
Of course, some fans are hopeful that this means Titanfall will come to Sony’s systems after all.
What do you think? Personally, we think it’s much more likely that it’s a line or two of leftover code from before the exclusivity deal, but only time will tell. You can check out a screenshot of the code to see the intriguing lines for yourself.Tags: playstation, ps3, ps4, titanfall

According to Sony CEO Kaz Hirai, over half of the people who have bought PS4 consoles are also members of PlayStation Plus, Sony’s subscription service that allows PS4 players to access online multiplayer and provides free monthly games for the PS3/4/Vita. Although he did not give a specific number, this should mean over 2 million PS4 owners are PS+ subscribers, since the PS4 sold 4.2 million units in 2013.
As we previously reported, sales of the PS4 are higher than Sony expected, leading to no change in their combined sales forecast of 15 million PS3s and PS4s sold by the end of March, despite the PS3s lower-than-expected sales.
CFO Masaru Kato also reported that there are over 150 million PSN accounts, although we aren’t sure how many of those accounts are active.
Sony is also launching several plans to cut costs, as it expects an overall loss for the year. Nevertheless, with numbers like these, we can’t deny that its place in the gaming market is excelling.Tags: playstation, plus, ps4

Although players in the United States and Canada can expect the launch of Sony’s game streaming service, PlayStation Now, in the second quarter of 2014, other gamers will have to wait a little longer. PlayStation Now will launch in Japan and Korea near the end of quarter four, and Europe won’t see the service until the first quarter of 2015. And if you’re in Australia or New Zealand then we have some really bad news… when the service will go live for you is completely unknown as this point.
That’s a long wait, especially when compared to its release in the US and Canada. Nevertheless, some European players have chosen to view it in an optimistic light—by the time PlayStation Now reaches them, any initial bugs and problems will have long since been worked out.Tags: now, playstation, ps4

Demo kiosks giving you the chance to play on the Playstation 4 prior to its launch next month are currently being rolled out to retailers across the United States. This means that very soon you’ll be able to go hands-on with Sony’s next generation console yourself.
According to Sony it’s own retail stores along with the GameStop, Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy retail outlets are most likely to get the consoles first, although it will be available elsewhere too.
Sony has also made it incredibly easy to discover where you’ll be able to go hands-on, just visit the Experience Playstation website by clicking here and then enter your zip code. You’ll then be presented with a list of the nearest stores that have demo kiosks. Apparently there’s a few bugs with the website at the moment though so you may want to give the store a call before making a trip there…Tags: demo, kiosks, playstation, ps4, sony
