Amazon has new Day One PS4 launch bundle

August 31, 2013 by Staff - 2 Comments

Here’s one for those of you who still haven’t pre-ordered or otherwise secured a Day One Playstation 4 console and want one for the launch on November 15 (in the US).

Amazon has just put up a brand new PS4 bundle that includes both the original PS4 console package (including one DualShock 4 controller) as well as an additional controller.

The price is the same as you’d pay if you purchased the extra controller separately (ie $399 + $60 = $459) but the thing is that this bundle will ship to you on launch day. This is opposed to all other PS4 packages on Amazon that are either unavailable, or only let you sign up to be notified via email when they become available.

So, if you want a PS4 on launch day and were going to get an extra controller anyway, this is one to check out!

Xbox One unboxing video

August 12, 2013 by Staff - 1 Comment

Wanna know exactly what you’ll get when unboxing (your) brand new Xbox One in November? Check out this video!

Major Nelson recently posted an Xbox One unboxing video that shows the full contents of the retail box. Notably, now included is the Xbox One specific chat headset, which Microsoft only just said it was “considering” including. They definitely made the right move including the headset in every box (both standard and “Day One” Xbox One editions will have it).

The Day One edition does get a special controller however (it has a shiny Day One emblem) and will also unlock a special Achievement that will not be available after the launch (i.e. you either get on release date or you don’t!) – details here.

Also included is the all new Kinect 2.0 for Xbox One, HDMI cable and other standard goodies.

PS4 and Vita bundle rumored for $500

August 6, 2013 by Staff - 1 Comment

Would you pay $500 for a Playstation 4 console bundled with a PS Vita?

According to Inside Gaming Daily, a “well-placed anonymous source” has advised them that such a console package could become available by the end of the year.

Of course Sony has not said anything official on the matter, and in fact it’s the first time the rumor has come to light at all.

That said, the PS Vita can be integrated with PS4 – you’ll be able to use it to stream all your PS4 games using Remote Play and also in other instances where a “second screen” might be required or desirable for whatever title it is you’re playing.

If the rumor is true, you’d save around $150 by virtue of purchasing the console bundle. Depending on the practical extent of the integration between the two (to be assessed once we get them in our hands!), it could be a tempting deal for a lot of people.

Microsoft “looking into” bundling headset with Xbox One console

July 31, 2013 by Staff - 1 Comment

Like we covered a couple of days ago, the Xbox One headset is now available to pre-order along with additional Xbox One controllers. Why might you need to pre-order a headset in the first place you ask? Because it doesn’t come with the console package – something that a lot of Xbox fans have not been happy about. In fact their pain is made all the more worse because the Playstation 4 comes bundled with a headset. Then you have the additional $100 the Xbox One costs and… you can see why people are upset.

Anyway, there is some good news. Via Twitter, someone asked Albert Penello (who apparently “leads planning for Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Kinect”) whether a headset comes with the Xbox One bundle (I guess they didn’t already know that it doesn’t). Well Albert responded rather surprisingly, saying “We’ve heard the feedback. Looking into it.” Kind of a strange answer to the original question, but the intent is clear. It seems Microsoft are reconsidering whether or not to include a headset in the Xbox One console bundle. If it did, I know a lot of gamers (and their wallets) that would be appreciative!
