New Xbox One Bundle, With Forza 5 for Free

March 9, 2014 by Staff - Leave a comment

It seems Microsoft has decided the effective price cut of offering a digital copy of Titanfall for free in an Xbox One bundle is the way to go, because they’ve now branched out with a new bundle. This time, you can buy an Xbox One with a free digital copy of Forza Motorsport 5.

In fact, it isn’t even a specific bundle. An Xbox One you buy from “select retailers” will include Forza 5. Before you ask, however, no—you won’t get a free copy of Forza 5 with the Titanfall bundle.

This deal begins next week. We’ll let you know if we hear more information on which retailers are participating. In the meantime, let us know if this makes you more inclined to buy an Xbox One.

Free Week of Multiplayer for Killzone: Shadow Fall Starting March 3

March 2, 2014 by Staff - Leave a comment

Shadow Fall is the sixth Killzone Game, and one of the PS4’s most well-received exclusive launch titles. If you haven’t played it, however, or if you have it but aren’t a PS+ subscriber, you’ll be able to try out the multiplayer component this coming week.

Starting tomorrow, March 3, all PS4 users will be able to play Killzone: Shadow Fall’s multiplayer modes for a week, for free. Consider it a celebration of the first free map pack being released for the game, as well as a promotional opportunity. You can join the leaderboards for Capture and Team Deathmatch, and even clans made up entirely of members participating in the trial will have a chance to win the Clan Community Challenge.

This is great, both for PS4 users who haven’t picked up a copy of the game, and for Shadow Fall players who have only gotten to experience the single player mode. Are you planning to participate? Let us know your thoughts.

Pick a Lock, Win a PS4

by Staff - Leave a comment

Thief released today in Europe, and Square Enix decided to promote it with a giveaway that’s really in the spirit of the game.

Ten GAME stores in the UK participated in the giveaway. At 11 AM, shoppers could try to open a locked chest. They were given lock-picks and five minutes to work on it, with the contents of the chest as their prize. These prizes included a PS4, a PS Vita, an AMD gaming PC, store vouchers for GAME, and a copy of the “Art of Thief” book, signed by the game’s director, Nicolas Cantin.

We haven’t heard how the promotion turned out, but one N4G user reported that they visited a store in the evening and the prize had already been won. With the limited number of stores participating, we expect it ended quickly.

We’d love to see more promotions like this. Different companies try different things, from regular ad campaigns, to viral videos, to alternate reality games, but a contest that ties in with the gameplay is really a great concept. Of course, for obvious reasons, it would work much better with some games than with others.

PS4 User Extends 14-Day PS+ Trial Until 2035

February 13, 2014 by Staff - Leave a comment

If you have a PS4 and have never used Sony’s subscription service, PlayStation Plus, before, you can try it out for free with a 14-day trial. As the name suggests, a 14-day trial is meant to last 14 days. One anonymous user who began the trial, however, discovered that it was possible to extend his free subscription by 14 days, over and over again, without paying.

PS+ now recognizes him as a subscriber until the year 2035, and he has hundreds of emails confirming his numerous $0.00 “purchases” of 14-day subscription periods.

This user informed about this glitch in this system, and he also provided screenshots to prove his story.

So far, Sony has declined to comment on the story.

We’d bet money Sony has either fixed this issue or is working on it now. What we’re really interested in finding out, however, is whether or not the user will be allowed to keep his free 21-year subscription. His honesty did bring it to Sony’s attention, after all.

Two free maps for Killzone: Shadowfall coming

January 15, 2014 by Staff - Leave a comment

Sony has just announced that two new maps will soon be dropping in for Killzone: Shadowfall. The two maps, titled “Cruiser” and “The Hangar” will be absolutely free of charge and have “been inspired by key locations from the single player campaign”. As an added bonus, they’ll also be 100% compatible with Killzone’s Custom Warzone feature.

Sony says that the key to dominating the Cruiser map is to indentify and then control the choke points on the map, while you need to be wary of the “alternative routes” in The Hangar map in order to do well there.

The Hangar

Finally, it was also announced that work has begun on the first DLC expansion pack for the game, with more information on exactly what it entails to be revealed soon!

PS+ free games for December revealed

November 28, 2013 by Staff - 1 Comment

Sony has just released details of the free games that Playstation Plus (PS+) subscribers can expect for the month of December.

The free games for the PS4 were actually already known – owners of Sony’s next generation console will be able to grab both Resogun and Contrast for free in December. Plus there’s also price discounts on Super Motherload (save 10%) and Trine 2 (save 20%) until Decemebr 13. Finally, if you have Assassin’s Creed IV on the PS4 then make sure you download a free “Aveline” ship figurehead.

As for Playstation 3 owners, you’ll get GRID 2 and Guacamelee!, with PS Vita owners also receiving Guacamelee! gratis along with Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.

We have to say that the free game offerings from PS+ are certainly much stronger than Microsoft’s “Games with Gold” program, at least for now…

Games with Gold expanded to include free Xbox One game each month

by Staff - Leave a comment

Microsoft has just announced via Twitter that starting next year all Xbox Live Gold members will receive one free Xbox One game per month.

The announcement means that Xbox One can now compete more effectively with the free games offered by Sony under its Playstation Plus program (a feature/advantage that Playstation fans are quick to remind anyone of).

The news also expands the offerings of the current “Games with Gold” program being run for the Xbox 360 (and which Microsoft started earlier this year). While the program has come some ways to giving gamers more for their paid Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, it has also come under fire for only dishing out free games that are a couple of years (or more) old.

No details on what sort of Xbox One games we can expect to be included in the program have been revealed yet, but given its meant to start next year we expect to hear something soon – well at least early in 2014 (as Microsoft note)…
