Microsoft to support Xbox One for over ten years

Speaking at the Eurogamer Expo not only did Phil Harrison say that use of the Xbox One and its cloud capabilities could potentially improve graphics on the console, but that Microsoft plans to support its next-generation gaming device for more than ten years.

Harrison said that the launch of the console on November 22 will commence a “more than 10-year journey” for the Xbox One and that it will be supported down the road via a range of features and services, including the much-discussed cloud.

For us, it’s not just about the launch date. It is about the start of the journey where the console will be improved and will be adapted and changed.

While ten years might sound a lot, you have to remember that the Xbox 360 will turn eight years old in November this year (yes, really!) and Microsoft has said they plan to support that console for another three years… Sure beats upgrading your cell phone every six months!

GameStop general managers receive free Xbox Ones

August 26, 2013 by Staff - Leave a comment

Consider yourself very lucky if you happen to be the General Manager of a GameStop store at the moment, because it has just been revealed that as part of the GameStop manager conference happening in Las Vegas next week, all GMs will be getting a free Xbox One console.

The news broke courtesy of the Tweet embedded above, and tech site NeoWin has also confirmed it directly with GameStop. A spokesperson responded that yes it is true, all General Managers of GameStop’s 6,500 retail stores will receive a free Xbox One – and this is regardless of whether they actually attend the conference next week!

No word yet on what games will also be given to the GMs, but I imagine it will be several. After all, as just announced by Sony, they will also be giving GameStop GM’s a Playstation 4 each with seven games! Hmmm, this wouldn’t be an attempt to try and gain some favoritism would it?
