Michael Pachter is a fairly well-known financial analyst within the gaming industry. Some calls he gets right, others he gets wrong. His latest is that the Playstation 4 will out-sell the Xbox One at launch. The reasons why, strictly speaking, aren’t because of demand though.

Discussing the topic on his Pach Attack show (embedded below), Pachter said that while both Microsoft and Sony will be able to sell every single console that they can ship, the Playstation 4 will outsell the Xbox One. So this just means he believes Sony are going to manufacture more PS4 consoles in time for launch than Microsoft can manufacture Xbox Ones.

Patcher also predicted that more than one million units of each of the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One will be sold within the first two weeks of their respective releases. As far as actual numbers go he had the following to say:

I guess the first couple of weeks 1.5 million [Playstation 4] and Xbox One probably 1 million, so 2.5 million combined, which is a lot. That’s what I think you are going to see.

That both consoles are going to sell out is a no-brainer, so it looks like this really will come down to manufacturing numbers. The console-maker that can make the most units wins – at least initially.
