Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel Hints, Trilogy Rumors

Last Updated: April 24, 2020

Horizon Zero Dawn was a big hit when it launched in early 2017 for the PlayStation 4. Near the end of that same year, it received an expansion called The Frozen Wilds, and the two were bundled together for the eventual Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, which is now coming to the PC as well.

But in addition to the upcoming PC version of Horizon, it looks increasingly likely that fans can expect to see even more from this series as we get closer to the launch of the PlayStation 5.

Earlier this week, developer Guerilla Games tweeted a job post for a Senior AI Programmer. It specifically used the #ps5 hashtag, suggesting they’re developing a game for the PlayStation 5. The tweet has since been deleted and retweeted using the #playstation hashtag instead, but fans saved a screenshot of the original.

Now, Guerrilla Games is also the developer of the Killzone series, and since Killzone Shadow Fall was a launch title for the PlayStation 4, it’s entirely possible that the next Killzone game is in development now. Past job postings from Guerrilla Games have led fans of both series to hope that announcements are coming soon.

However, since this specific job post used Horizon imagery and is focused on NPC behavior, it is most likely for a Horizon Zero Dawn game. It’s been assumed for a while now that Horizon would eventually get a sequel, so that’s no huge surprise on its own. Whether or not it’s a PS5 exclusive remains to be seen.

Of course, rumors spread like wildfire whenever something like this happens, and VGC claims its sources say Horizon Zero Dawn not only has a “gigantic” sequel in development for the PlayStation 5, but that it will also introduce co-op and be followed by a third game, making it a trilogy.

No official announcements have been made about Horizon Zero Dawn 2.
