Major Nelson has confirmed that the Xbox One will not support external storage when it launches on November 22 this year, and has further stated that while adding this functionality to the device is “on the list”, the timeframe for doing so is unknown.

The comments were made during Larry Hyrb’s latest PAX podcast with him saying:

[External storage functionality] will not be there at launch because the team is working on some other things, but it definitely is on the list.

Sony on the other hand has confirmed that the Playstation 4 will support external storage when it’s released on November 15 (in the US) however there is a catch. While you will be able to store music, movies and other media on external devices, all games will still need to be installed onto the PS4’s internal hard-drive. With it being 500GB standard and PS4 games potentially being up to 50GB each, we’re guessing a lot of people are going to be looking for an upgrade pretty quick.
