Previously Sony had provided a sales forecast of 5 million PS4 units sold before the end of March. Now however, during its recent earnings call, Sony President and CEO Kazuo Hirai was asked if they have increased their sales forecast.
When Sony made the previous sales forecast, it extended to a predicted 15 million sales of PS3s and PS4s combined. PS3 sales have been lower than expected, but Sony has kept the combined forecast at 15 million, so that sounds like they expect the PS4 to sell more than 5 million.
Hirai did not give specific details, however, so we don’t know what the new PS4 sales forecast is. When asked a question about the PS4’s marketing, he said that in spite of the better-than-expected sales, he plans to increase marketing rather than decrease it.
We’ll let you know if we hear any definite figures for the sales forecast.
