The infamously difficult Dark Souls may not be available on the Xbox One and PS4, but in 2014, they should see the release of a game that’s drawing comparisons with it: Lords of the Fallen. The game’s developers, City Interactive and Deck13, just released a gameplay trailer, and it looks very promising.

Between the combat style and the tagline (“Every victory is born from defeat”), the Dark Souls comparison is hard to avoid. Producer Tomasz Gop told GameInformer:

“On a certain day I said, ‘Hey, what are you going to do? If people are going to compare us to Dark Souls, let’s focus on trying to make that not be a bad thing.'”

Lords of the Fallen is expected to be a difficult game, where bosses especially will kill you many times before you win. However, Gop says it has a fair learning curve, as well.

In addition to Dark Souls, it has been compared to Zelda, Borderlands, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and The Witcher 2. It’s notable to mention that Gop previously worked on The Witcher 2.

Bandai Namco, the game’s publisher, released several screenshots today, as well, and they look pretty cool.
