According to Sony CEO Kaz Hirai, over half of the people who have bought PS4 consoles are also members of PlayStation Plus, Sony’s subscription service that allows PS4 players to access online multiplayer and provides free monthly games for the PS3/4/Vita. Although he did not give a specific number, this should mean over 2 million PS4 owners are PS+ subscribers, since the PS4 sold 4.2 million units in 2013.

As we previously reported, sales of the PS4 are higher than Sony expected, leading to no change in their combined sales forecast of 15 million PS3s and PS4s sold by the end of March, despite the PS3s lower-than-expected sales.

CFO Masaru Kato also reported that there are over 150 million PSN accounts, although we aren’t sure how many of those accounts are active.

Sony is also launching several plans to cut costs, as it expects an overall loss for the year. Nevertheless, with numbers like these, we can’t deny that its place in the gaming market is excelling.
