In the first week of it going on sale in the United States, Microsoft sold approximately 732,000 Xbox One consoles according to VGChartz. This is compared to the million plus Playstation 4s sold by Sony for the same period after the launch of its new flagship console.

Sony appears to be dominating the next-generation console battle that just got underway in the UK too, with the Telegraph reporting that GAME (a UK retailer) has said that early demand for the PS4 has been huge there and is about four times greater than what they saw for the Playstation 3.

In addition, Amazon has also apparently predicted that the Playstation 4 will become the fastest selling video game console in Amazon UK history. The record is currently held by Microsoft’s Xbox One, so what they’re effectively saying is that they expect the Playstation 4 to do better.

It’s not all bad news for the Xbox One in the UK though, John Lewis (another UK retailer) has said that it expects demand for the Xbox One to be greater than that for the Playstation 4, saying that, “We are thinking that Xbox One will appeal a bit more to our customers in terms of the experience it creates.”

Whatever the case, we can’t wait for some firm (and reputable) sales numbers to come out for both consoles. It’s going to be a very interesting few weeks in the lead up to Christmas for sure!
