Amazon not shipping any PS4s to non-US addresses

A few months ago when the Playstation 4 was officially unveiled it was possible for international gamers to order from the US Amazon store and expect to have the console delivered to them. Given that the PS4 is region free this seemed to make sense and led to lots of gamers, particularly ones from Australia and Europe, deciding to pre-order their consoles from Amazon as opposed to their local games store. The RRP on the PS4 console being the cheapest in the United States also made a big difference we’re sure!

Things don’t look so good now though with user ‘sony4life’ of reddit posting the following email from Amazon customer relations. If it is correct then any pre-orders made outside of the United States for the Playstation 4 will be cancelled (excluding APO/FPO addresses of course).

Dear [redacted],

I’m [redacted] of Amazon’s Executive Customer Relations. Jeff Bezos received your email and asked me to respond on his behalf.

I’m very sorry to hear your order was cancelled. I can definitely understand frustration and disappointment, especially since you’ve had the pre-order for a while now. I am also a big PlayStation fan, and I know how highly anticipated this launch is. Unfortunately, in this case, the information you received from our Customer Service is correct. We are unable to reinstate is order. When we were processing your pre-order, we learned it couldn’t be shipped to the shipping address you provided. Currently, we can only ship the PlayStation 4 within the U.S. and to APO/FPO addresses.

Normally, our software prevents international customers from ordering items that aren’t eligible to be shipped outside of the U.S. While I know this doesn’t lessen your disappointment, you can be sure, we’ll be taking a deeper look into the situation see what exactly what happened with your order. [redacted], I realize this wasn’t the resolution you were looking for, and again, I’m very sorry. We won’t really won’t be able to comment on this further, and we appreciate your understanding. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.

Kind Regards, [redacted]

We expect this change of stance from Amazon to gather steam in the coming days and weeks as the launch of the Playstation 4 nears and gamers who thought they had a console locked away realise they don’t… We hope you don’t get caught out like this!
